A Lab assistant is basically the one who works in a laboratory. They are basically employed in the schools, colleges, and other education institutions and basically in medical, chemical and computer labs. He or she supposed to assist in the various tasks that are conducted in a laboratory. He or she needs to take care of laboratory material and tools. It will be the responsibility to keep acids or other effective substances out of reach of students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lab assistant needs to fulfill a number of duties and responsibilities and some of the basic are as follows:

 A lab assistant has the prime responsibility to be punctual so needs to arrive on time and open the lab.  It will be the duty to ensure the cleanness of the lab.  It will be the duty to take care of harmful chemicals, costly experimental devices.  He or she needs to take care of the equipments and need to keep them behind the lock.  A lab assistant needs to fulfill the duty to maintain a register for entry of students and the related records properly.  It will be the duty to be very careful when experiments are being conducted in lab.  He or she needs to be very sure that the students do not carry any eatables inside the lab.  The lab assistant has the responsibility to inform the concerned authority in case of any harm and breakage.  He or she is responsible for keeping the record for the laboratory supply.  He or she needs to take care of the lab properly as will be needed to shut down all running systems and switch off lights whenever not in use.

Skills and Specifications

There are the following required skills and specifications of a lab assistant:

 The person needs to have a proper and deep knowledge of laboratory, chemicals and apparatus and the other instruments.  He or she should be able to educate students to keep lab neat & clean.  He or she needs to maintain the standards to do the same.  The job requires a lot of hard work so the person should have to be physically fit.  He or she needs to be aware of functioning of all apparatus, devices and other electronic systems.  The person must be well aware about the rules and regulations of lab and other equipments and deadlines as well.

Education and Qualification

 The person desiring to be a lab assistant must be a graduate in the related field.  It will be an added advantage for the person having any additional course or diploma in management.
