Contributing to the Work of Your

Would you like to take part in Bar Council decision making?

One of the strengths of the Bar Council is the extent to which barristers, whether or not they are Council members, freely devote time and effort to their work.

The Bar Council is anxious to ensure that it has a wide range of barristers involved in its work.

Towards the end of the year, committee membership is reviewed and new appointments are made to our committees. This year we are looking for volunteers for our committees.

The main committees of the Bar Council are:

 Access to the Bar  Alternate Dispute Resolution  Bar Conference Committee  Employed Barristers  Equality and Diversity  European  Fees Collection  IT Panel  International  Law Reform  Legal Services  Member Services Board  Professional Practice  Public Affairs  Remuneration  Training for the Bar  Young Barristers

If you are interested in contributing to the work of your professional body, please write to Lana Locke, Assistant to the Chief Executive (or e-mail [email protected]) indicating your preferred area(s) of interest and giving some indication of any relevant experience you have. If you are interested in participating in the work of more than one committee, please list these in order of preference to ensure a diverse spread across all the committees.

Whilst we will do our best to accommodate your particular interests this may not always be possible. The Bar Council is keen to ensure that committee membership includes a proportion of Bar Council members, as well as volunteer practitioners with relevant skills.

You may wish first to contact the relevant committee secretary by phoning the switchboard on 020 7242 0082 to discuss the work in a particular area.

It would be helpful to hear from volunteers as soon as possible.
