A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. WHEREAS, Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. was born on June 6, 1918, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and traversed these earthly bounds on April 1, 1997; and WHEREAS, Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. was the loving son of Robert Neal and Anna Harper Neal; and WHEREAS, Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. was the devoted father of four children, Velma Neal Givens of Cincinnati, Ohio; Sterling O. Neal, Jr.; Beverly Neal Watkins; and Gerald A. Neal, and he instilled in his children the importance of God and the church, and he exhibited the qualities of strength, perseverance, the work ethic, a sensitivity for fairness and equity, and the responsibility to right a wrong; and WHEREAS, Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. attended Louisville Catholic High School and Jefferson Community College, and was a devout member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church; and WHEREAS, Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr., will be remembered as an active and involved citizen, and a highly esteemed member of the Louisville community, whose varied work experience reflected his many talents; he was an organizer for the United
Electrical Workers; he was the first African-American Vice President for the International Association of Machinists Workers; he was a housing inspector for the City of Louisville; he was proficient in retail sales insurance, and he excelled as a construction contractor; and WHEREAS, Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. was past Grand Knight of the St. Augustine Council 58, Knights of Peter Claver, and a member of Assembly 24, Fourth Degree Knights; and

WHEREAS, all who knew and admired Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. will grieve over their loss, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement and loss upon the passing of Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr., and extends to his family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy. Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten, and his influence will continue through his children. Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, Friday, May 30, 1997, it does so in loving memory and honor of Sterling Orlando Neal, Sr. Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Gerald A. Neal, 1718 West Jefferson Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203.
