Library Research Project: Compare and Contrast Two Early Civilizations

WHAP Compare and Contrast Presentation Project Rippe

This project consists of several parts:  Research in the media center/Social Studies lab  Work on this at home, in lieu of usual homework reading/studying  Create a power point showing the areas of comparison and contrast of the two cultures you were assigned or selected. There MUST be some applicable pictures, maps, etc. in your power point. It must show COMPARISONS as well as CONTRASTS!!!  Participate in a “Foundations Fair” to present your findings.  Judge displays on “Best Appearance/Most Organized”, “Most Detailed”, “Best at Meeting Research Objectives”, etc.  Eventually you will write a comparison/contrast essay as well, which is one of the three main essays you will be required to write on the AP exam.

DIVIDE and CONQUER: There will be 5 groups with 5 or 4 members in a group. Assign jobs and categories to research to accomplish the objectives in the time allowed.

Research Objectives: Compare/contrast the two civilizations on 10 areas (min.) of the 17 areas listed below: 1. Geography 2. Economics - Trade 3. War 4. Agriculture 5. Weaponry 6. Population Growth and decline 7. Disease 8. Migrations 9. Social Structure (classes/castes) 10. Gender Structure 11. The Arts - (cultural and intellectual developments) 12. Literature 13. Politics - Government structure - (including attitudes toward government) 14. Family organization 15. Religious beliefs 16. Innovations 17. Environment

An Annotated BIBLIOGRAPHY must be included on the back of your visual display. Alphabetize by author’s last name. Do NOT separate books from magazines, etc. I only did this to help you with the form. Annotation is only a brief description of how this information helped you with this project.
