MOEN RECEIVES HIGH HONORS IN DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES’ SUPPLIER PERFORMANCE REVIEW
Faucet Manufacturer is One of Only Eleven Suppliers To Receive “Partners of Choice Award” from Leading Builder
North Olmsted, Ohio . . . Moen Incorporated was recently honored with the prestigious “Partners of Choice Award” from David Weekley Homes, the second largest privately held home builder in the United States. Moen received an “A” in service – a category which David Weekley Homes uses to rate its suppliers in a quarterly review. The award was presented in a ceremony held on August 16, 2005 in Houston. Accepting the award on behalf of Moen was David Lingafelter, vice president and general manager-Wholesale.
The “Partners of Choice Award” is based on Weekley’s National Trading Partner Survey, in which suppliers are rated based on quality and service. Each company’s numeric scores are averaged, then an alpha grade is assigned relative to its ranking with all of Weekley’s national trading partners. Alpha grades range from A to F in 20 percent increments. Once complete, each company receives a quarterly score card indicating their average scores and alpha grades for the quarter and rolling 12 months. Detailed information is also provided that includes every rater’s name, title, email address, phone number, specific market, ratings and compliments. If a supplier’s overall rating is less than a “five,” it has 30 days to discuss the situation and file a report with David Weekley Homes.
“At Moen, our mission is to continuously exceed our customers’ expectations,” said Lingafelter. “Our customers range from wholesalers to plumbers to builders, and our goal is to manage this supply chain so the faucet selection and installation process is seamless and every stakeholder is satisfied. We have been able to implement a proactive, service-based relationship with the entire team at David Weekley, and we are honored to receive an award that recognizes our efforts.”
Moen is one of over 100 suppliers rated by team members of David Weekley Homes. The Weekley organization’s strong commitment to excellence is demonstrated by including over 700 team members in its survey from every market and every level inside its organization. Team members are asked questions such as, “What can a supplier do to make your job easier?”, “What training methods work best for you?”, and “Do you know who your local representative is and how to contact them?”
“The primary purpose of the survey is to create channel alignment – partners that are actively managing the supply chain to consistently meet our team members’ needs,” said Bill Justus, vice president of Supply Chain Services for David Weekley Homes. “Fundamentally, companies must decide who their customer is. We believe it is the builder. We plan on building and closing 5,000 homes this year, and will continue to grow our business relationships with partners that can create value in the eyes of our team members. Moen has demonstrated their commitment by continuously delivering superior results.” Justus implemented the unique supplier rating system in order to emphasize the importance for trading partners to be responsive to all David Weekley Homes team members. By providing feedback from builders, design center, warranty service and administrative personnel, trading partners know exactly how they are doing in each market and at every level inside the Weekley organization.
“Moen is one of only eleven suppliers that received the ‘Partners of Choice Award’ for maintaining either an ‘A’ in quality or service, or an ‘A,A’ rating for both categories. The award recognizes Moen’s achievement in excellence in the service category,” added Justus. “Moen’s demonstrated performance puts them in a very select group of providers.”
Justus says it’s too early to call the National Trading Partner Survey a success, but since its inception in September 2003, he has seen significant improvement in the average scores, and high participation levels inside the Weekley organization.
