Fifth Grade Discipline Policy

September 2017

Dear Parents / Guardians,

Fifth Grade Discipline Policy Our Philosophy: We believe all students can behave appropriately in the classroom so that the learning climate can be a positive one. We cannot allow any student to prevent us from teaching and/or any student from learning.

Our Class Rules: 1. Listen carefully and follow directions. 2. Work quietly and do not disturb others who are working. 3. Wait to be recognized; do not call out. 4. Respect others. Be polite and courteous to all. 5. Treat school and personal property with care.

If A Student Chooses To Break A Rule: 1st consequence: Verbal warning 2nd consequence: Lunch Detention 3rd consequence: A phone call home 4th consequence: Sent to an Administrator's Office

Severe Disruption: Student is immediately sent to an Administrator's Office

It is in your child’s best interest that we work together in relation to his/her schooling. We will therefore be in close contact with you regarding your child’s progress in our classroom. Please sign the tear-off below and have your child bring it with him/her to school on Monday. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call or write them on this tear-off. Please be aware that we pick up our voice mail messages once daily at the end of the day, so if there is an emergency please call the main office. Fifth Grade Homework Policy

Homework is any work that the student is required to do outside of class. The purpose of homework is 1) to reinforce skills and concepts learned in the classroom, 2) to extend skills through long-term projects, and 3) to develop responsibility, organizational skills, and study habits.

Incomplete class work will be sent home as homework. In our classes, students are held accountable for their own homework. Students must have their homework at the start of the class in which it was assigned. If a student is absent, he/she will be expected to make up all missed work at home. In order to foster a sense of responsibility, as well as minimize classroom disruptions, students are responsible for bringing their homework to class. They will not be sent to the office to obtain any work dropped off for them.
