Republican Leadership Council s1

Mullings Mull v. (1) to consider; to ponder. (2) to add spice as to wine or cider

From: Rich Galen To: Usual Suspects Re: Let’s Get Ready to Stumble Date: Tuesday, March 18, 1998 ______ Forget about the millions of words written so far about the Clinton perjury scandal. Here are the most important 15: “Six of seven Democratic House women contacted yesterday declined to comment or return phone calls.” This from Tuesday’s Washington Post by Tom Edsall and Terry Neal. Drip. Drip. Drip.  Meanwhile, Johnny Chung entered a guilty plea, according to the Washington Times, to charges of bank fraud, conspiracy, and tax evasion in the Clinton-Gore fund raising scandal. Remember that one? Here’s the question: With whom did Chung conspire? Drip. Drip. Drip.  The Wall Street Journal reports that Judge Royce Lamberth has ordered depositions to proceed in the Filegate scandal (and remember that one?). Drip. Drip. Drip.  I must have missed the supportive statements of Al “If-You-Need-Me-I’ll-Be-In-Thailand” Gore. There was a photo-op with the President and Vice President on Tuesday but Gore stood so far away, you needed one of those panoramic disposable cameras to get him in the shot. Blip. Blip. Blip.  You don't think the White House Spinsters thought the Willey interview was damaging? How about the barrage of neutron bombs they let fly Monday starting at about 6:30 AM? Speaking of which, Peter Roff, political director here at GOPAC, points out it took years to find the Rose Law Firm billing records; Months to find the documents that Congressman Dan Burton subpoenaed; but only hours to find the Kathleen Willey letters. Rip. Rip. Rip.  We are all focused on the President's Job Approval ratings, but Sam Dawson of the NRCC urges us to take a look at Clinton's personal Favorable/Unfavorable ratings. According to an ABC poll released on March 16, the President stands at 50 - 46 Favorable to Unfavorable. A year ago those numbers stood at 60 - 38. He is ten points DOWN on the Favorable side, and eight points UP on the unfavorable. Dip. Dip. Dip.  Rep. Martin Frost (D-TX), Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee gives Texans a bad name. Catalina Camilla reports in Sunday’s Dallas Morning News that Frost is accusing the Republicans in Congress of engaging in a “rope-a-dope strategy.” Uh, Marty? If the GOP’s got the rope, who do you suppose is the dope. Duh. Duh. Duh.
