Re: Clarification on new rules for 2011/12 ASAA Team Handball season
The ASAA has had communication with Alberta Team Handball Federation and there are a few minor rule changes that have been brought in that we think would benefit our schools and so we are going to adopt them for the 2011/12 season.
1. Roster numbers – currently ASAA policy states that for each game a maximum of 14 players can dress and must be designated on the game sheet prior to commencement of game. New IHF rules state that 16 players are now allowed to dress and play in a game.
2. Time outs – there will now be 3 time outs allowed per game and a team can use a max of 2 per half and can only use one in the last 3 minutes of the game.
3. Double sided tape –ASAA will now also be allowing double sided tape to be used to assist athletes in gripping the ball. Alberta Team Handball Federation has rolls of this tape in stock at their office and you can purchase a roll for $20. This double sided tape has been a major trend in Europe and Asia and therefore ASAA will allow its use for all league and provincial play.
As we move forward with Team Handball as an ASAA sanctioned sport, our hope is to not only see the growth of the sport but to continue to provide coaches and athletes with the opportunity to learn and adopt International rules that are to the benefit of all involved.

Good luck in your Team Handball season.
