JAMES A. LITTLEFIELD AND THANK 12 HIM FOR HIS THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS OF SERVICE TO 13 SPARTANBURG COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE. 14 15 Whereas, Dr. James A. Littlefield has contributed more than thirty- 16 eight years to Spartanburg County School District One, twenty 17 years as a superintendent and many years as a teacher, coach, 18 administrator, and assistant superintendent since 1969; and 19 20 Whereas, growing up in Inman, South Carolina, he graduated from 21 Chapman High School in 1965. He received his Bachelors Degree 22 in Government from Wofford College in 1969 and his Masters 23 Degree in Social Studies from Converse College in 1974. He 24 further received his Doctorate in Educational Administration from 25 U.S.C. in 1987 and his Educational Specialist Certification in 26 Educational Administration in 1980; and 27 28 Whereas, Dr. Littlefield is currently a Certified Assessor with the 29 S.C. Assessment Center Leadership Academy and a member of the 30 Board of Trustees of the Mary Black Foundation; Board of 31 Directors of the Spartanburg Senior Center; S.C. School 32 Association of School Superintendents; Southern Association of 33 Colleges and Schools Visiting Committee; S.C. Association of 34 Curriculum and Development; S.C. Association of Health, 35 Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; National Rehabilitation 36 Association; U.S. Advisory Council for Education; Inman Rotary 37 Club; Landrum Lions Club; Foothills Area Chamber of 38 Commerce; Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce; Board Member 39 of the S.C. Association of School Superintendents; and Wofford 40 College Athletic Hall of Fame; and 41
[859] 2 1 Whereas, Dr. Littlefield is also a former president of the Inman 2 Rotary Club and a former member of the Board of Directors of the 3 Piedmont Community Actions; Board of Directors of Spartanburg 4 County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs; Board of 5 Directors of the Charles Lea Center; Executive Board of S.C. High 6 School League; and Executive Board of the S.C. Association of 7 School Superintendents; and 8 9 Whereas, Dr. Littlefield is a member of Campobello First Baptist 10 Church where he has served as Sunday School Director for more 11 than twenty years, on the Board of Deacons, Chairman of the 12 Finance Committee, and on various other committees; and 13 14 Whereas, Dr. Littlefield was instrumental in bringing Head Start to 15 District One to serve more than one hundred children. He 16 expanded kindergartens to full day, implemented Parent 17 Education, implemented after school care programs, increased the 18 number of support staff, implemented a Strings Program for grades 19 6-12, developed a Long Range Plan for Technology, implemented 20 a 4K program; implemented block scheduling in high schools; 21 implemented a Family Literacy program; and introduced the 22 Inman Learning Center for adults; and 23 24 Whereas, Dr. Littlefield implemented the use of the DSS Central 25 Registry of Abuse and Neglect for screening purposes and he is 26 leading the district in the Southern Association District 27 Accreditation process, one of only five districts in the State to 28 accomplish this task; and 29 30 Whereas, Dr. Littlefield is married to Gail Burns Littlefield and 31 together they have two children, Tina L. Harrell and Jason 32 Littlefield. They also have two grandchildren, Sara and Lauren 33 Harrell. Now, therefore, 34 35 Be it resolved by the Senate: 36 37 That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize Dr. 38 James Littlefield and thank him for his thirty-eight years of service 39 to Spartanburg County School District One. 40 41 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 42 Dr. James A.
