Robotics and Gaging Integrated at IMTS 2006

Booth D-4338

[FARMINGTON, CT – MAY 2006] Edmunds Gages will demonstrate the breadth of its product line at IMTS 2006 in Chicago, September 6 – 13. Highlighting the exhibit will be an automatic measuring system with an integrated part handling robot. “In operation,” explains Jack Gaughan, Manager of Custom Gaging at Edmunds, “the robot will take an automotive piston part to six different gaging devices, each measuring different features. We will measure areas such as the pin bore, the OD for size and roundness, and the groove thickness and location. Further, we will also perform match gaging in which the robot will pick up the piston, find the mating pin, and place the matched set onto an assembly rack.” The sophisticated system will incorporate all of Edmunds Gages’ dimensional measurement technologies including air gaging, electronic gaging, vision gaging, and match gaging. Additionally, the demonstration will showcase the company’s latest Windows® based computer software technology providing host of statistical process control functions and data management options. Complementing the automatic gaging system at IMTS will be an array of other Edmunds Gages’ products, including gage block comparators, column amplifiers, ring, and plug gages, air snaps, electronic LVDT gages, vision systems, and HSK taper gages. The company will show these gages measuring “real world” applications such as insert tool holders, bearing races, crankshafts, valve stems, pistons, and mating piston pins.
