 Please review the catalog and note any changes/typos that need to be corrected. Submit any changes to Jim Gentry before March 1  Jim asked that faculty members please send Spring 10 department syllabi as an attachment to Lauri Watkins by January 22 so they can be placed on program web pages.  Jim Gentry handed out the portion of the report regarding Student FTE. Discussion followed regarding comparison between instructional sites and patterns of enrollment.

 Jim Gentry distributed Secondary Education Social Science component checklists : Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Social Science, Sociology. Take a look at your specific area and let John Hughes know if you would like to make any changes.

 Jim Gentry handed out some information from the Internship Committed describing the different types of internships offered here at CSI. Please take a look and offer any changes or suggestions to Jim Gentry or John Hughes.

 Some discussion was held on methods to increase student responses to online evaluations and graduate surveys. Some professors use incentives like extra credit and some send emails and make announcements in class. Despite these efforts response is still not at a comfortable level. The department decided to set a new course of action. First, a list of graduates will be requested of Carol Carlile. Then, department members will distribute hard copy surveys to those they have in class. The hard copies will be turned in to Lauri Watkins, who will compile the data. Any that are left over will get a copy by either snail mail or e-mail. Then, Lauri and/or a work study will call and talk with the student and ask the questions of the student directly. The department chair will analyze the data and distribute it to appropriate faculty and add it to our yearly outcomes report.

 Russ Tremayne informed the department about the 5th Annual civil Liberties Symposium: Civil Liberties and the Arts. This year we are expecting 300-400 participants. Call Russ with any questions – ext. 6885.

The Social Science department will meet on Tuesday, February 2, at 1:00.
