NOVEMBER 2013 “SHORT…BRIEF…TO THE POINT”

Welcome to “Mentioned in DISPATCHES”. With the “Sitrep” again getting very large (20 Pages), it is time to try something that is not new, but we know it works. The “Sitrep” as the newsletter will be published now five (5) times a year. December, March, June, August, and October. To fill in the cracks will be the newest addition to The Pointsman’s communication efforts… “Mentioned in DISPATCHES”. A smaller version that will still have notes from the Association, and to “Honour and Remember”, but whose main focus will be that of a social calendar for our members. Many of you may remember “Side Margins” the efforts of Mr John Styan. An excellent smaller newsletter that John put a lot of time into. “Mentioned in DISPATCHES” will be similar and hopefully up to par with John’s efforts. Throughout time, many in the military thought that to be “Mentioned in DISPATCHES” was the highest of honours. A high standard, but lets give it a try…

1 ‘O GROUP’ Russ Girden, Association President

"LEST WE FORGET" Words known around the world. Words said by children around the world, Many who wish they truly knew their meaning, yet spoken with respect.

At this time of year many past and present members of the Armed Forces stand together with pride, knowing that they have served their country well. They march in various Parades of Remembrance around the world, knowing their personal sacrifices were given proudly serving their country… and honouring the ultimate sacrifice by brave men and women in past and present conflicts.

"TO HONOUR AND REMEMBER" Words known to the members of our Pointsman Association, and our growing commitment throughout various regions of Canada and abroad. We will never forget, and will always Honour and Remember our fallen, through our actions and our words.

As your President, I wish to express my respect and admiration to you all for your personal commitment and sacrifices given to your country.

Russell Girden, President Military Police 811.

SCHEDULE OF UPCOMING EVENTS

NOVEMBER 8TH, 2013 CFB BORDEN, MP ACADEMY SUBJECT: Remembrance Ceremony - Canadian Forces Military Police Academy, CFB Borden - 8 November 2013

Remembrance Day Ceremonies at the Academy at CFB Borden have been finalized. The Academy Commandant, Major D.J. Dandurand and the Chief Warrant Officer Lew Johnstone are pulling out all the stops to welcome our Military Police Veterans. The parade starts at 1300 hours on Friday, 8 Nov 2013 at the Military Police Academy. Please plan to arrive at the Academy by 1230 hours. The recommended dress for our veterans is blazer, shirt, tie, beret and medals or business attire. There will be two vintage MP jeeps and a vintage army motorcycle beside the Stewart Square Memorial. The Academy Team have arranged for two photographers to record the events. Along with the students, Academy Staff and MP veterans, there will be a contingent from 2 MP Regiment. One of our few remaining WW II Provost veterans, Bill Martin will be attending. Bill is 89 years young. After transferring from the Artillery to the Canadian Provost Corps, Bill landed on the Normandy beaches just after "D Day." Until war's end, Bill delivered dispatches on his motorcycle for the Deputy Provost Marshal in all kinds of weather and through intense fighting as the Allied Armies pushed through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The Academy Team have asked me to provide a list of veterans who will be attending. Can you please reply if you will be joining us for this very important occasion. If you are bringing a guest (s) please provide me with their name (s). Please feel free to share this note with any MP veteran. We don't want to miss anyone.

Following the Remembrance Service we will adjourn to Heritage Hall for refreshments and an opportunity to visit with old comrades and to make some new friends. I would encourage all veterans of the Military Police in the area to join us in Camp Borden on 8 Nov 2013 to remember our fallen comrades and to show our support for our serving members. All the best...... Bob Thomas
