Dear Parent/Guardian:
Because the Milton Elementary School, Milton Middle School and Milton High School have been identified under federal law ("No Child Left Behind Act") as not meeting Annual Yearly Progress (AYP), you may request supplemental services for your child for the 2015-16 school year. The term "supplemental services" means extra help, outside the school day, provided to students in reading, language arts and math at the expense of the school district. Transportation must be provided by the parents. Title 1, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), calls for eligible students attending Title 1 schools that have not made AYP in increasing student academic achievement for three years to be provided with opportunities and choices to help ensure that their children achieve at high levels.
As part of the law, only children who are eligible for free and reduced lunch are able to participate in this program. If you are not currently eligible for free or reduced lunch, but believe you may be, we would encourage you to call the Milton Food Service Program at 893-5500 and ask for an application or please feel free to access the following link: http://www.schoolnutritionandfitness.com/schools/mtsd_2611132242569893/mealapps/2015_Free_and_Reduced_Meal_App lication.pdf If you are determined to be eligible, then you will be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
Certain providers have been approved by the Vermont Department of Education to provide supplemental services instruction. If you are interested in pursing these services, please review the provider list, which is available at: http://education.vermont.gov/documents/EDU-SES_Vermont_Approved_Providers.pdf. This link is also available through the Milton Town School District’s webpage (http://www.mtsd-vt.org/dst/) under the “Resources” tab at the top of the page. The choice of which approved provider to select is yours to make.
There is a cap on the amount of money per student that the LEA is required to spend on services for any child each year. Once eligibility is determined and the provider is selected, the program will be tailored to meet the academic needs of each individual student.
If you decide you would like to register for supplemental education services and have selected a provider, please call Deb King at 893-5307 no later than February 5, 2016. I will work with you and the provider to develop a service plan for your child.
