Minutes for Meeting of September 14, 2011

Present:

Mike Nelsen, Josh Greer, Janet Bass, Linda Bourne, Jerry Peterson, Lee Perry, Kevin Christensen, Dorene Schulze, Ray Strong, Jay Munns, Jim Buchanan, Jim Hess, Mark Crane, Greg Martz, Steven Keene, Susan Thompson, Tory Jackman and Marsha Andersen

The meeting was opened at 9:03 a.m. by Mike Nelsen.

Kevin Potter, Kimberly Giles, and Sara Sinclair were excused.

There was discussion on spending the $3000 grant money. Greg Martz made a motion for it to go to GIS for mapping with Jim Buchanan seconding it. Motion carried.

Next month will be the election of the vice chairperson. Dorene Schulze will be taking over the Chairperson position

Lee Perry stated that construction on I-15 and I-84 should be completed by the middle of October.

Linda Bourne told about someone at the high school making an apple bong to smoke spice. Also said spice can be obtained in Brigham City, Logan, and Ogden.

Kevin Christensen passed out the Communicator flyer that he had received from Sara Sinclair, as well as a flyer on Critical Employee Emergency Planning Program (CEEP) that is being held October 27th from 8am to 5pm at Weber State University. You can register on u-train.

Kevin Christensen also told about a new flu virus that was found in Tennessee and Pennsylvania that doesn’t have a vaccine or immunity. To his knowledge only four people have it.

Kevin also stated that there will be a meeting following this one to discuss mapping security. After a decision is made it will be run past the LEPC. Josh Greer stated that Crystal Hot Springs has re-opened. They have made equipment, training and management changes to ensure that nothing like their incident happens again.

Mark Crane stated they are still working on the July 4th weekend Yellowstone River spill (44,000 gallons spilled), and will probably have crews there until Thanksgiving.

Greg Martz stated that six people will be going to the Freeport Center for hazmat training on an “unknown”. There will be four hours training and four hours of hands on. There will be eight more hours offered in October. He also stated that the Hazmat IQ class is now full, with seven members attending.

Greg also stated that close to $350,000 has been spent fighting fires, and the budget is almost broke, with the largest being at Cedar Knoll with 4900 acres being burned and 3600 acres at Rattlesnake.

Jim Buchanan stated they are sponsoring an EOC operations class on November 8th during the day and the 9th and 10th in the evening. You can register for this course on U-Train. Also, the USU Board of Trustees approved a new regional campus for the old Kmart property, as well as adjoining property behind it. The old campus will be BATC.

Kevin Christensen and Dorene Schulz talked about the Red Cross exercise they attended during Peach Days, stating it was small, but successful.

Jay Munns is still putting together the list for Emmitsburg. Required classes are ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 and the EOC class being sponsored by Brigham City in November.

The next LEPC meeting is October 12th at 9:00 a.m. at BESO.

Motion made by Greg Martz and seconded by Janet Bass to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried with the meeting being adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
