Purpose This unit standard is for people working in the yarn making industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe the machine variables and their effect on ball construction; and set-up a balling machine for safe and efficient processing of balls that meet specification.

2.1 Adjustments are made according to plant safety procedures.

2.2 Balling machine is clean and in operating condition.

2.3 Machine settings produce yarn to specification and according to workplace productivity requirements.

Range length setting, machine speed, winding pattern, label size and application, pitch, mandrel size, flyer.

2.4 Test samples are taken according to workplace practice.
