DMS AWARDS Night June 11 th 7p.m. @ the P.A.C.

Duxbury Middle School strives to recognize students for their academic, character, and civic successes throughout the school year. Please note the following categories’ of awards. If your student has fulfilled the requirement for an academic award please mark your calendar to attend the annual DMS Awards Night.

There are additional awards such as, 8th Grade Department Awards, and the Hojlo character awards, which will also be handed out during this event. If your student is receiving one of these additional awards you will be receiving a separate invitation.

Principal’s High Honors Awards At the completion of the school year, students who have received all A’s for the first three terms of the academic school year are awarded the Principal’s High Honors Award.

Presidential Academic Fitness Awards, 8 th Grade Award At the completion of the school year, those students who have received all A’s for seventh grade and all A’s for the first three terms of eighth grade receive the Presidential Academic Fitness Award.

MCAS 280 Award The MCAS 280 award is given to any sixth, seventh, or eighth grade student who achieved a perfect score of 280 on their ELA, Math, or Science and Technology MCAS.

Departmental Excellence Awards, 8 th Grade Award At the completion of their middle school experience, students who have shown excellence in the various academic areas will be awarded the Departmental Excellence Award.

Hojlo Awards At the completion of the school year, four students per team who exemplify the following characteristics are awarded the Hojlo Award in honor of the former DMS Principal Larry Hojlo: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

Bicknell Award The Tracy Bicknell Humanitarian Award is awarded to two seventh graders (one boy & one girl) who best exemplify the qualities in Tracy that her family and friends value: - Human kindness - Desire to help others fit in - Respectful treatment of peers

McBain Award The Kathy McBain Unsung Hero Award is awarded to one eighth grade boy and one eighth grade girl who exemplify the characteristics that Kathy exhibited during her service as a Guidance Counselor at Duxbury Middle School.  Significant contribution to the climate at DMS  Kindness & compassion towards all members of the DMS community  Courage to take risks to do the right thing  Ability to encourage others to make good decisions  Willingness to lend a hand without the need for reward or recognition  A positive attitude that looks for the good in every person
