I am writing to you with details of this year’s Cotswold Suzuki residential music course.

The course is open to all Suzuki violinists - Twinklers to Book 10. For students in Book 1 the course will include group classes, a private lesson, sight-reading classes and afternoon activities. Depending on reading ability, students can take part in one of two Chamber Music Courses. Both chamber music courses include group classes, coached chamber music sessions, workshops and possible string orchestra groups. Workshops have, in the past, featured jazz, fiddling, African drumming and a professional harp and string workshop. In the evenings, there are solo concerts, a chamber music concert and a grand finale concert on Monday afternoon. Friends and relatives are welcome at all concerts.

This year at Viney Hill Karen will be offering a Parent Seminar on Learning Styles and their impact on effective communication between parents and children.

Karen is a Neuro Linguistic Programming practitioner and a Myers Briggs Type Indicator facilitator. Her seminars combine both these very useful tools and offer parents specific techniques and strategies to encourage positive and fun learning outcomes both for themselves and their children.

The course is held at the Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre, nestling between the River Severn and River Wye in the beautiful Royal Forest of Dean. It is situated one mile off the A48 and is 2.5 miles north of Lydney, Gloucestershire.

Indoor accommodation is available with all bedding provided; however, as the rooms are 6 and 8 bedded, they may suit larger families or a group that wouldn’t mind sharing. This is available at an extra cost of £36.30 a room (pro rata if sharing). Please also note that bedrooms may be used as teaching rooms. If you prefer camping, you may like to take advantage of one of the ten static tents available, each of which sleeps up to 6 people. However, these tend to get booked up quickly, so if you would like one, please send in your form early. Otherwise, you may bring your own tent.

In this great tradition, the Cotswold Suzuki Group will encourage parents and children to work hard and play hard. All fees (below) cover teaching by BSI trained teachers and professional coaches, all meals and the use of the Viney Hill facilities. The extra cost of the Chamber Music courses covers an extended schedule and extra teaching time. Viney Hill gives no reduction for meals not taken. Please note that all under 18s must be accompanied on the weekend by a parent or an adult in loco parentis.

Suzuki and traditionally trained viola and ’cello students are also invited to apply. Please feel free to pass this information to any viola or ’cello students you think may be interested in attending.

You can arrive on the Friday evening or on Saturday morning for a 9 o’clock start if you are local. In past years, some parents have enjoyed playing informal chamber music in the evenings and parents are most welcome to bring along their instrument, music, board games and any other form of family entertainment. Weather permitting, we also have a bonfire party on Saturday night, with barn dancing, music, toasted marshmallows etc.!

The course is very popular, so early application is advisable to avoid disappointment. The closing date for applications is 10th March 2017. The balance of the course fees will be due by 31st March 2016.

As part of its health and safety policy, Viney Hill requires details of everyone who is on-site to be included on a medical form, regardless of whether they are doing an activity or not, so please ensure everyone in your party is on the form.
