Discussion Topics, Set #1

Impeachment of Katherine Duffy

*Absent

*Roll Call Vote

Katherine Duffy is still on BOG because 7 voted for her to be impeached and 7 voted for her to stay. 2/3 is needed for her to be impeached.

Impeachment of Erin Looper

*Absent

*Discussion about how it would be better to keep her on BOG because it would be too much trouble to find someone new to represent the floor.

*Roll Call Vote

Erin Looper is still on BOG because 7 voted for her to be impeached and 7 voted for her to stay. 2/3 is needed for her to be impeached. Proposal #1: Tanner Terrell

Requesting $100 for Misconceptions: The Greek Collins Communities (money will be used on hummus platters and gyros from Trojan Horse). Estimated number of participants: 20. Tentative date of project: March 10. Residents from the Collins and Greek communities will participate in a discussion and Q&A session about misconceptions and stereotypes about both communities.

No Discussion.

Called to Question. Seconded.

Proposal passes with no nays. $100 for Proposal #1.

Proposal #2: Sasha Newkirk

Requesting $780 for Spandex Shorts (money will be used on 12 pairs of spandex shorts for the Little 500 Women’s Team – 5 will be used this year; the other 7 will be for use in the sports and rec closet). Estimated number of participants: 5, this year. Tentative date of project: Little 5. [The team is willing to pay $20/each for the shorts, bringing the price to $680 for BOG. They are also paying for shipping.]

$425 would be the cost if they were impersonalized. $315 would be the cost of jackets. There are windbreakers in the sports and rec closet, but they would not be ideal for the race.

Two of the veterans have shorts, but they are old & need new ones. The rookies have shorts, but they are not made with ideal materials.

They cannot buy Collins Jerseys because the Little 500 provides jerseys for all the riders.

Discussion of how the weather is unpredictable for race day.

Carolyn reminds the governors that this is the only place RAs can come for funding.

Matt: Reminds us that we could buy these shorts whereas we could have helped send 8 people to Costa Rica.

Sam: I think this is too much money.

Sara: Is this something that they could go to another council for? Danielle: Thinks that we do not have enough team spirit. We could stipulate that all of the things we fund should be used for the next few years.

Evan: Agrees with Danielle. Would it be okay if we split the price in half, and the riders could pay the other half?

Sasha: Remind us about the cheaper price for the jackets and impersonalized shorts. She realizes that we have other things to fund. The jackets could be used while riding and walking around. The shorts could be used on race day.

Jamie: Talks about how things are great when they are personalized. Mentions that t-shirts would be great.

Sasha: They already are getting them.

Jamie: Thinks these are things we cannot afford right now.

Morgan: Thinks we should talk about $20/rider option.

Becky: Maybe we could do just the shorts or just the jackets.

Matt: Have you done any bake sales? Sarah-Anne can bake well.

Sasha: The t-shirts are a fund-raider.

Discussion on short sizes chosen for the other 7. Mediums and smalls.

Morgan: What if we did just provide money for jackets? And the team paid for some of it, so that BOG would only pay for $200 and some?

CC has about $520. They have meetings every week.

Danielle: What if we paid for $500 of the shorts? This is something that they do need. It’s a necessity to be apart of the Little 500 tradition.

Matt: Would the riders keep the shorts?

Sasha: Depends on the stipulations put on the team.

Danielle: Feels like people would be more interested in Little 500 if it were known that BOG supports the team.

Jamie: Just searched the web for cheaper shorts that have “hydro pads.” You can just buy 5 pairs at $55 each. The shorts would be ready by Little 500.

Sara: Would we be more comfortable with $300-$400?

Ehs.

Anna: We have two meetings left, so we potential have enough money.

Aasiya: We will have Little 500 Ticket Reimbursements coming up, in considering the budget. By funding this, we are setting a precedent by supporting the team. Usually we have the ticket reimbursements. If we decide to fund this, they will come back in a few years, asking for money. It’s a good thing to support the team.

Jamie: Completely agrees.

Talk of sharing team ware.

Lisa: Asks Jamie about the new shorts he found.

Becky: Thinks we should have a friendly amendment.

Sasha looks at the shorts Jamie found.

Danielle and Aasiya: It’s important to support the team and encourage them to come back to BOG.

Sasha: $290 for 5 pairs with personalization. They would still be willing to pay $20/each.

Lisa: Should they be able to keep them?

Yes.

Becky’s friendly amendment: $250 for buying shorts that Jamie found on the interwebs.

Called to Question. Seconded.

Proposal passes with no nays. $250 for proposal #2.

Discussion Topics, Set #2

Discussion of BOG at Collinsfest Email Sarah-Anne if you’re interested. She will email everyone who contacts her.

General Floor Concerns

Suzie: Are quiet hours active in the courtyard?

Sarah F: Yes. Have you asked them to be quiet? Have you called the center desk?

Suzie: Can we submit something to GnomeNews or the Columns?

Sarah F will ask the RAs.

Aasiya: Thinks she broke the dryer.

Becky: The one on the right was broken a while ago.

Aasiya: This one was on the left.

*laughter.

If showers are broken, ask for a work permit at the center desk.

Sam: The containers that you can hold soap, shampoo have been missing in two of the stalls.

Fill out a work order.

Comments from President

Aasiya:

Discussion of Honors Councils.

This is something that should be discussed in the next few meetings.

The honors college wants to be involved in Collins. More programming. More community. Only honors students can be on the council. Programming can be for all residents (special to Collins – other residents halls would limit programming to Honors students).

The honors college wants to have a sense of community within the Residential Halls, so that incoming residents know that there are other people in the Honors College. In regards to BOG, about $10 comes in from each residents’ activity fee. There are other centers who have thousands of dollars in rollover money. 1) Different way to allocate the money, not based on how many residents we have. 2) Based on how much programming happens in each center.

Danielle: Most people on her floor thought the Honors College just wanted a resume booster.

Aasiya: There’s actually going to be a council. There are Honors students that have put on programs. They would be representatives from the honors college, specifically from Collins. Collins would be saying that we approve of this council being at Collins.

Sara: Would this council help RHA give us more money?

Sarah F: RHA won’t take other things into consideration.

John: Concern that this new council would take proposals away from BOEP.

Aasiya: The group should interact within the other organizations. We’re viewing this as a sort of competition. We shouldn’t view it that way. What worries me is that it’s duplicating programs.

Aasiya: The leader is paid by the honors college to put on programs. We would be providing money for them.

Danielle: Thinks that an Honors College Rep. should come in because she feels we are attacking Aasiya.

Aasiya will bring someone in. She feels cool.

Becky: Would like to know what types of programs are coming in. Feels like it is too similar to BOEP.

Sarah F: Do you know if the community leader has a minimum requirement of programming?

Aasiya: Will ask. Compares this to Sexy Flatts, a group within Collins that goes to Arts Council a few times a year for funding.

Lisa: But the Sexy Flatts is open to anyone living in Collins. The group based on that selectivity is not the best thing for Collins.

Aasiya: The problem is that the selectivity is based on GPA, yes? Yes.

John: Two things: Should we support this or not? Small group of people to hammer out the details.

Aasiya: Talk to your floors about the selectivity. And then we can move forward from there.

Lisa: Anything else?

Aasiya: We have a high GPA!

*yay
