SCREEN PRODUCTION MAJOR 2018

Information Sheet & Application Form Application Deadline: January 19, 2018

Submit the completed application form and current academic transcript to: [email protected]

The BA in Screen Production programme is based on three levels of courses: core, schedule and elective courses. The core Screen Production courses will provide students with a suite of production skills in scriptwriting, directing, camera, sound and editing, in both fiction and factual genres. The courses in the Screen Production schedule will complement the production core, providing students with an aesthetic, historical, social, and economic understanding of film and media texts and their respective industries. Students’ elective choices will allow them to explore specific directions from a range of disciplines to customise their BA degree according to their personal interests and pursuits.

Limited entry: Due to the demands of equipment and small-workshop pedagogy, the number of students enrolled in the Screen Production major will be limited to a total of 40 in any one cohort. Students who are selected will enrol in SCREEN 200 and 201.

After the completion of SCREEN 200 and 201, all 40 students will continue on to Stage III Screen Production. Placement of students into Stage III core courses will be based upon grades received in Stage II core SCREEN courses, and a 250-word statement outlining their desired specialisation and their rationale for wishing to enter the industry and/or pursue postgraduate study (two of four 300-level core courses will be selected for the continuing majors at the discretion of Program staff).

Entry point and selection process: Confirmation of admission to the BA in Screen Production will be approved by application, with COMMS 100 Communication, Technology and Culture and FTVMS 101 (or MEDIA 101) Film Studies listed as prerequisites for entry. Since the intake at Stage II is capped at 40, entry to the Stage II core SCREEN courses will be limited to those students who have been accepted into the programme. A committee of at least three members will base selection on the grade received in FTVMS 101 (or MEDIA 101) and a completed application form designed to test students’ creative abilities and lateral thinking.

Major in Screen Production From 2018, majors must include:  MEDIA 101 and 15 points from COMMS 100, 104  SCREEN 200, 201  30 points from SCREEN 300–303

Selection Criteria: This is a restricted entry programme requiring permission of the Programme Coordinator. Students will be selected on the quality of their academic record and the creative quality of their application.

NB: Your application is required in addition to the usual online enrolment processes. You are encouraged to complete this as early as possible. Students who submit their applications to [email protected] later than the due date may not be considered for selection. Students who have not submitted an application in addition to online enrolment will not be considered. SCREEN PRODUCTION MAJOR Application Form
