Overview Doctors of the World UK is part of the global Médecins du Monde (MDM) network, which delivers over 300 projects in more than 70 countries through 3,000 volunteers.

Our vision is of a world in which vulnerable people affected by war, natural disasters, disease, hunger, poverty or exclusion get the healthcare they need.

Through our health programmes and advocacy we work to ensure excluded people overcome barriers to realising their right to health. Since opening in the UK in 1998, we’ve raised £14m for overseas programmes, helped 9,000 service users here and fought for health as a human right for all.

Last year our international budget was €113million. Our UK forecast income in 2015 is £10million.

Job Purpose In this new role you will be responsible for securing and growing income from individuals and community fundraising initiatives, successfully utilising investment funds to scale up this area of our fundraising work. We have ambitious plans to diversify and grow sustainable income, especially unrestricted income, and achieve a step change in our income and impact. You will be an accomplished direct marketing expert, with a proven track record in growing income from individual and community giving, including through digital channels and activities. With strong analytical skills and ability, you will possess creativity and strong entrepreneurial flair, with vision and tenacity to succeed. You will anticipate trends in individual and community giving and how to apply them in your work, particularly in the digital arena; and you will want to take calculated risks and innovate to achieve the highest return on investment. You will have proven success in successfully fundraising with limited resources. You will be driven to excel in your work and thrive in a fast-paced environment and supportive team that is committed to the highest levels of personal and team performance.

Key Duties Key Activities Raise & grow income from  Work with the Head of Fundraising to develop the new strategy for increasing income individuals across all individual giving streams.  Design and implement an individual donor giving acquisition plan by assessing, planning and delivering our mass market supporter acquisition programme.  Work with specialist suppliers and internal teams to develop campaigns from initial brief through to post-campaign analysis, assessing performance against agreed KPIs and ensure accurate and actionable results, reporting and analysis. Make recommendations for future campaigns, in order to maximise the income raised for Doctors of the World.  Project manage each fundraising activity according to stringent budgets and tight timetables, reporting in a timely and accurate way progress against plans and targets, including attrition analysis. Work across the organisation to exploit every opportunity to acquire and retain long term supporters.  Fundraise quickly and effectively at the onset of a humanitarian emergency to which the organisation is responding and needs funds.  Innovate new products and techniques that advance our fundraising aims – both in terms of donor recruitment and increasing donations.  Work with fundraising and communications colleagues to develop fundraising messages and new fundraising materials.  Develop and test approaches to legacy fundraising.  Provide expertise and guidance on all matters relating to gift aid, including maximising income and work closely with the finance team to ensure gift aid declarations are accurately made and stored.  Keep abreast of sector trends and competitor activities and make recommendations on future improvements and opportunities. Raise & grow community  Work with the Head of Fundraising to develop the community fundraising strategy income and direction.  Plan and deliver a portfolio of community fundraising activity.  Manage and develop relationships with community individuals and groups in order to maximise the value of their fundraising.  Promote and recruit new and existing supporters to take part in events and challenges to meet income and expenditure budgets.  Manage, attend and coordinate all challenge events and associated activities.  Measure and test events and activities to inform future activity.  Harness opportunities to cross-sell fundraising products.  Work closely with communications colleagues to produce fundraising messaging.  Manage and develop our new student groups.  Work with the Fundraising Coordinator to manage the community giving programme via the Raisers Edge database ensuring detailed records of all communications are maintained.  Manage the community fundraising budget, negotiating costs with suppliers to ensure value for money.  Stay ahead of sector innovation and development and proactively recommend changes to our funding plan.
