THE GRAPEVINE VOLUME 33...ISSUE 11 PINE ISLAND COVE -- NOVEMBER 2014

Your Board of Directors has already held its first meeting and there are several issues that we are already acting upon. The most important of these is the wastewater treatment plant permit renewal, which has to be done every 5 years. We have retained TKW Engineering of Ft. Myers to assist us in the application process. The state inspectors have already visited our facilities and have submitted a punch-list of problems that must be addressed in order for the permit to be issued. Chuck Venturi, our vice president, has agreed to serve as our coordinator and has already put together an action plan. We hope this will result in the completion of the requirements by Dec. 1.

We have changed the locks at the Cobiac Compound as well as the boat ramp. Residents will only need 1 key (which cannot be duplicated) to open both areas. Each unit owner is entitled to a key . . . simply go to the office, turn in your old key and you will receive a new one at no charge. However, if you do not have your old key, the charge will be $3.00.

A committee of 3 worked on a revision to our Cobiac Compound Rules and Regulations in order to ensure that the language more closely reflects current practices and helps to provide for a safe and clean area where we store boats and trailers as well as vehicles. Many thanks to Jill Davidson, Lloyd Buck, and Gene Auge for taking the time to revise the guidelines . . . copies are available in the office.

All residents are reminded that Gene Auge, our maintenance man, is NOT responsible for picking up yard waste from owners' properties. It is the responsibility of the owners to do it themselves or to make arrangements with their property management contractor to dispose of the yard waste in the appropriate container in the Ladyfish Compound.

Board elections are going to be taking place shortly. Anyone who is interested in running for the Board must submit a resume to the office no later than Nov. 19, 2014. Three positions will be open this year.

That's it for now . . . enjoy the fine fall weather we are having. We look forward to seeing a good turnout for the first Association meeting of the year, which will be on Thurs. Oct. 30, at 10:00 a.m. in the Clubhouse.

From your Board of Directors, Bob Eames

TO ALL ELVIS FANS....

Hi, my name is Jeanne LeMay Dumas and for those of you who don't know me, I wrote a book in 2007 about my experiences meeting and working for the one and only Elvis Presley. In 1972 I became Miss RI Universe and flew to Puerto Rico to compete in the Miss USA Pageant where I met Linda Thompson, Miss Tennessee. We became immediate friends and as a result after the pageant, I moved to Memphis on July 1. As fate would have it, we were invited by an acquaintance of Linda's to meet Elvis Presley on July 6 and the rest is like a fairytale. He and Linda clicked, she lived with him for almost 5 years and I became his secretary.

The book is called, "Elvis, Linda and Me" (make sure you put "and" instead of "&" when typing in the name of the book) which is available through Authorhouse.com (the publisher which I recommend) or Amazon.com. It is 8 1/2 x 11, paperback, and contains 70 color pictures which include the upstairs bedroom. bathroom, office and Lisa’s bedroom which is an area that is off limits on the tour of Graceland. Actually, I am the only person who has such photos.

It would make a great Christmas gift for the true Elvis fan (cost is about $35) and if requested, I would be delighted to sign your book. Also, there are E-books available at only about $4.

Elvis was the greatest entertainer of our time and he is sadly missed, but because of the devotion and support of his wonderful fans, his memory will always live on.

Thank you, Jeanne Dumas

Thanksgiving Dinner at the Clubhouse in PIC . . . Thanksgiving dinner will be Thursday, November 27, 2014. Happy hour will be at 3:00, dinner will be at 4:00.

Sign-up-sheets will be on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse, November 1. Sign up if you are coming, as we need a count for the amount of meat to buy from your $2.00 donation at the door. Sign up for the dish you will bring for 12 people or more, and/or cooking a turkey or ham. Sign up for decorating the Clubhouse.

Please try to fit your phone number on so we can reach you if needed. We are not signing up for clean up this year, but instead are asking that everyone who is physically able to help do so.

The turkeys and hams need to be ready to serve…cooked and cut up in serving-sized pieces with no bones in them. Those signing up for desserts are expected to cut and put them on dessert plates, ready to serve, and put in the back room of the Clubhouse where the air will be on. Please mark your name off the list in the kitchen when you bring your dishes in. When setting up, use place settings of China as it is more festive; and please be courteous to not over fill your plate the first time around, as the other tables would like a chance at the delicious food also. There is always enough food for seconds.

Anyone in the park that is not able to come due to health reasons, please let me know your names as there is a plan on taking you a plate of food. We want everyone to be able to celebrate the holiday! It is very lonesome for some, so let's look at who would appreciate a meal delivered.

If you have any questions call Nancy Schoerner 616-901-3874 or e-mail [email protected]

This is my second year, and we need to have someone take over organizing the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for the next two years. It would be nice to keep this tradition going as Sara did it for over 25 years! This helps a lot of people have a place to go and not be alone. Please let me know that you are available and shadow me this season. HAPPY THANKSGIVING and welcome back SNOWBIRDS!!

RUMMAGE/YARD SALE . . .

I thought I should let everyone know there are some changes for our next Rummage/Yard Sale. The board has decided to change the location of the Association Party, so they will not be renting the tent we have used for our outside sales. I have moved the date for the sale to the 7th of February. l am hopeful it will be warmer in the morning. We can still have outdoor sales, but you may want to bring a canopy tent if you have one. The date to sign up for your table will be changed to sometime in January. This will be announced later. It was suggested last year that we provide golf cart rides from the parking area to the Clubhouse for those who have difficulty walking the distance. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Janet Pinnell 558-8135

POOL COMMITTEE NEWS FOR NOVEMBER

Your Pool Committee continues to be busy making improvements to the pool area. The rock edging along the fence line on the north side of the pool is finished. A big “THANK YOU” goes out to Lucy Johnson who headed up the project. The rock edging will help keep dirt from back washing onto the pool deck. Also, in an effort to minimize the pooling of water under the canopy on the south side of the pool, the pool noodles have been relocated to the spa end. Plans are in the works to redirect the three downspouts under the canopy to existing drains. This should help prevent rainwater from pooling and producing mold and mildew in this shaded area. We are in need of six more chaise cushions to replace those cushions that did not make it through this past summer! Our apologies for the bare chaises on the pool deck! We are hoping to be able to order new cushions soon. The new water heater will be installed this month, thanks to Lloyd Buck, our liaison BOD member. We were hoping to have new speakers installed poolside this month, however, a problem with the overall speaker system needs to be resolved before moving ahead on this project. As always, our commitment is to improve the look of the pool area while maintaining a safe environment for the residents of PIC and their guests. If you would like to join the Committee or if you have any questions or concerns, please call Carol Schmidt at 239-257-5735.

TO ALL OUR TALENTED RESIDENTS …

We would appreciate it if you would consider sharing pictures, wall hangings, etc. to show in the Clubhouse. We have some wonderful pieces up now, but would like to show some of everyones! We are NOT art critics -- just friends enjoying your hobbies.
