Student Senate Meeting November 11, 2008 7:00pm Kornhauser Library & Commons Building Meeting Minutes I. Call Meeting to Order 7:11

IV. Executive Cabinet Reports a. Rudy Spencer, President i. Task Force for Tuition and Fees committee. Will start meeting and working to make a decision about how much if any should the tuition increase this year. ii. Pro-Card Usage- increase in number of usage in pro card and things have been bought that aren’t allowed to be bought. You need to not transfer the Pro-Card to other people and make sure your council members understand the rules of the Pro-Card. iii. Communications plan- pretty clear from the senate that we need to improve the way the executive branch communicates with the senate and with the entire student body. Spencer has spoken with Dean Mardis who has agreed to assign a Graduate Assistant to be in charge of working on enhancing and facilitate communications. iv. Board of Trustees meeting on the 13th at 1pm in Jefferson Room, welcome to come and watch what happens. v. Belknap Master Planning process. Still looking for another student to be on the Belknap Master Planning process, will need to begin a conversation about what needs to go where over the next 10 to 20 years. vi. Dec 2nd Provost and President will be at senate to discuss Master Plan b. Mike Dennis, Executive Vice-President i. Community engagement- ii. Working with senate President Ramsey to get speakers to come to senate meeting, if there is someone you want to come speak let us know. iii. Next Wednesday is the Meet your SGA event, 11-1 in the Red Barn where your name tags. iv. Met with Freshman LEAD director Gerome Stevens, discussed options for senate retreat want to get it set early. Working on ideas to hold people accountable. c. Academic Policy Board meeting we have a new student of the month! ii. Student of the month applications can roll over for 90 days according to the constitution. iii. Study Bucks- constitutionally I am required to develop a study bucks program, hasn’t happened in the past I am planning to bring it back. Working on getting donations from local restaurants and business. Next meeting you are going to get study bucks and during finals and the weeks leading up to finals you are to give them study bucks with your name on them and talk to them about sga services and what not. iv. Academic grievance form is on the dean of students website but it is now also available on SGA website. v. Please read the resolution over before next weeks first reading so we can get a lot of feedback. d. Dani Smith, Services Vice-President i. Dining services- Four meal waiver advisory meetings, a chance for as many students to possibly come and talk about what they think should be on the waiver. Would to have senators at the meeting. ii. There are four hard copies of the Sudexo contract in SAC 310 you can apply to check out a hard copy. iii. Jazmans opened Oct 31st things seem to be going great. They are offering coffee cups and soft drink cups that are refillable and will get a discount on soda. iv. Safety- starting an education campaign so everyone on campus can understand what is going on with safety on campus. v. Presidents please email Dani if your councils plan on doing a safety walk. vi. Bookstore sales were up 32% last year, going to be doing another student campaign to have faculty members to get book orders in on time and to the UofL bookstore. vii. Green initiatives- putting together our action plan, figures are not complete yet. viii. Technology- Office 2007 was added to 24 hour computers in the Tulip tree, if there are other computers that are lacking in software inform Dani Smith. ix. Will be announcing an important announcement at the Meet your SGA event, so COME!

V. Reports of Boards and Standing Committees a. SGA Senate Executive Board, Chairman, Mike Dennis i. Discussed a follow up to discuss chief justices interpretation of the constitution ii. Discussed the 20/20 plan iii. Discussed Master Plan; prepare yourself for when meetings start taking place iv. Wear your nametags and SGA baseball t shirts at the Meet your SGA event.

Club Program Committee, we need 3 students to serve on board from SGA side b. SGA Senate Academic Policy Board, Chairman, Ahmed Awadallah i. Student of the Month is Cody Young Speed School Student. ii. American Sign Language resolution will be presented next week, will be sent to Academic Board

c. SGA Senate Appropriations Committee, Chairman, Erica Downs i. No approvals ii. Over realization Proposal will be discussed more in New Business a. See Over realization proposal for full information d. SGA Senate Development Board, Chairman, Jeff Osgood i. Referred a couple senators for negatives, we also enjoy positive referrals e. SGA Senate Student Organizations Board, Chairman, Krista Woltermann i. Cardinal MMA Club ii. Moo Court and professional skills Board iii. Operation Smile College Club iv. Transformations v. Meeting after senate, so stick around! f. Activities Board, John Docter i. No meeting last Friday ii. Thursday Nov 13th Homecoming chair and vice chair apps are due
