FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS ON TOUR NOW WITH BRUNO MARS

Fitz and The Tantrums is pairing with Capital Cities for “The Bright Futures Tour,” launching October 20 at The National in Richmond, VA. The Los Angeles-based bands – which have scored two of the summer’s most ubiquitous hits, “Out Of My League” and “Safe and Sound” – will perform at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on October 23 and at House of Blues in Boston on October 24. Tickets for the fall co-headline run are on sale now. See below for initial itinerary; additional dates will be announced soon.

“Out Of My League,” the first single from Fitz and The Tantrums’ new album, More Than Just a Dream (Elektra Records), is #6 at Modern Rock and #3 at Triple A. The accompanying video was directed by Jordan Bahat (fun., Grouplove) and already has more than one million views and is in medium rotation at Vh1. Fitz and The Tantrums will perform “Out Of My League” on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on September 19. The band will also appear on “Conan” on October 16.

USA Today tapped “Out Of My League” as its song of the week, calling it “a colorfully catchy piece of ‘80s-inspired soul-pop.” “Spark,” another track from More Than Just a Dream, was used at the French Open and has been heard in CBS’ new hit series, “Under The Dome.”

The Wall Street Journal recently profiled Fitz and The Tantrums, marveling at the way their music blends eras yet eschews nostalgia. “The bands, such as Fitz and the Tantrums, that succeed in melding vintage sounds into something new are the ones that avoid slapping disparate elements together and instead alter the elements by fusing them,” noted Eric Felten in the article.

Rolling Stone said: “the album folds neon-tinted synthesizers and arena-scaled hooks into Fitz’s fiery trademark funk to create a big, bright new groove.” “More Than Just a Dream is a grandiose album—full of movement and energy,” observed Relix. “On punchy numbers like single-ready ‘Spark’ and gospel-inspired ‘House On Fire,’ Fitz and crew have successfully crafted vintage tunes that simultaneously feel contemporary. It’s the sort of disc that begs for repeat listens…”

More Than Just a Dream, produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, M83, Depeche Mode, Phoenix), is the follow up to 2010’s Pickin’ Up the Pieces, which spent 73 weeks on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, peaking at No. 1. Fitz and The Tantrums launched the new album with a headline tour that was sold out. The band is also touring with Bruno Mars this summer and recently performed at the Do Something Awards, honoring the nation’s best young world-changers, 25 and under, which aired on VH1.

Fitz and The Tantrums – comprising Fitz (vocals), Noelle Scaggs (vocals/tambourine), James King (saxophone), Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboards), John Wicks (drums) and Joseph Karnes (bass) – played their first show in December 2008 at Hotel Café in Hollywood, CA. After self-releasing the five-song 2009 EP Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1, Fitz and The Tantrums soon found themselves appearing on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” touring with Maroon 5 and recording their full length debut, Pickin’ Up the Pieces. The band was named a “You Oughta Know” artist by VH1 and views for the video for the hit single “MoneyGrabber” surpassed three million. Fitz and The Tantrums supported Pickin’ Up the Pieces with two sold-out U.S. headline tours, performances at numerous major music festivals and appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Conan,” “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “The Rachael Ray Show.”
