JOB DESCRIPTION

Post: Learning Coach CRT (Fife IPS Service) Salary: £21,818 - 25,291 per annum (pro-rata) (Equivalent to NHS Band 5) Hours of work: 17.5 hours per week Annual Leave: 25 days + 4 days public holidays (pro-rata) Responsible to: IPS NHS Lead Location: FEAT Office, Glenrothes

(The post-holder is also expected to carry out a proportion of work in various work place settings and occasionally in psychiatric ward settings, with patients with psychosis, on a one-to-one basis.)

1. To deliver individualised employment advice, support, training and assistance to people who have experienced severe mental health conditions.

2. To work closely with employers and other agencies to increase workplace support and opportunities for people with severe mental health conditions.

Learning Coach’s Job Purpose

To support clients accessing the Individual Placement and Support Fife service hosted by FEAT. The role involves coaching clients using different approaches to treat cognitive deficits, explaining how cognitive deficits can impact everyday functioning, and promoting the factors that influence a positive response to cognitive remediation. The learning coach will demonstrate through practise and application how cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) can help clients gain and sustain employability.

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to give a broad indication of the variety of tasks that the postholder may be asked to undertake. This job description is not an exhaustive list and will be subject to annual review.

1 Individualised Support

1. To deliver CRT to clients on a one to one and group basis using both IT and alternative methods. 2. To develop or research alternative materials to be used in the cognitive rehabilitation programme with each individual. 3. To be knowledgeable about the impact of cognitive deficits on everyday functioning and the factors influencing a positive response to CRT. 4. To be the up-to-date with current evidence and research promoting CRT and the outcomes achieved using this therapy. 5. To assist the vocational (and psychiatric) rehabilitation of in/out patients in Fife through application of existing materials (including short group sessions; one-to-one support and technology-based content). 6. To occasionally deliver elements of an SQA accredited “Steps to Work” employability and personal development skills course and contribute to the design of content for these courses. 7. To communicate complex information such as explaining psychological models and to discuss sensitive information such as family breakdown, sexual abuse, domestic violence, bereavement etc.

8. To support clients to self-manage their journey to work through the IPS project

2 Partnership Working

1. To summarise information using databases and to provide up-to-date patient/case information to be input in to departmental databases.

2. To communicate effectively and according to both FEAT and NHS Fife policies and guidelines with clients and their families, occupational therapy/psychology staff members and other agencies in order to disseminate knowledge regarding, e.g. client wellbeing and care, service provision, and professional development.

4. Participating in multi-disciplinary meetings regarding appropriate feedback about psychological assessment or intervention.

3 General Working Practices

1. To work independently according to a plan agreed in conjunction with Fife IPS Service and a qualified Occupational Therapist and within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures. 2. To maintain the highest standards of record keeping in accordance with professional codes of practice of FEAT and NHS.

4 Other Duties

1. In addition to the main duties listed above the post holder may be required to perform other appropriate duties assigned by the IPS Management Team.
