Baking Powder Biscuits Equipment: 1 c. dry measuring cup 1 Tbsp. 1 tsp. 1 liquid measuring cup 1/3 c. dry measuring cup rubber scraper straight-edge spatula large mixing bowl flour sifter wax paper pastry blender fork rolling pin drinking glass 9x13 in. cake pan butter knife 1 piece wax paper
Ingredients: baking powder-supply table flour-in kitchen salt-supply table shortening-supply table milk-supply table
Recipe: 4 Preheat oven to 450 degrees 3 Scrub down counter with wet soapy dishcloth 2 ¾ c. milk 1 1 Tbsp. baking powder 3 1 piece wax paper (supply table) 4 2 c. sifted flour-set sifter on wax paper and roughly measure 2 cups flour into sifter-sift onto wax paper. 2 1/3 c. shortening (use rubber scraper) 1 1 tsp. salt
3 In a large mixing bowl, sift 2 c. sifted flour (re-measure from wax paper), baking powder and salt together. 4 Cut shortening into dry mixture using a pastry blender. 3 Make a well in the center of the mixture, and pour milk into the well. 4 Stir with a fork until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and forms a ball around the fork. 3 Sprinkle flour lightly on counter. Turn dough out onto counter. 4,3,2,1 Everyone take turns kneading the dough 2-3 times. The dough should be kneaded a total of 10-12 times. 4 Sprinkle more flour lightly on counter. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out until is is about ½ inch thick. 4,3,2,1 Using the floured end of a drinking glass, push down on one corner of the dough to cut out a circle. Carefully remove the dough circle and place it in a 9x13 inch cake pan. Repeat with remaining dough, continuing to re-roll out dough until you cannot make any more circles. Everyone take turns cutting out biscuits-you should get 10-12 biscuits. 3 Put pan on center oven rack and set timer for 12 minutes. 1 Check biscuits after 12 minutes. They should be golden-brown in color. If biscuits are done, remove from oven with oven mitts and place pan on cooling rack. Turn off oven.
