Taylor, Pharm.D. 6 Rx Contact Hours 8:00 am Registration 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Program Target Audience: This program is designed for APRNs seeking or maintaining prescriptive authority and RNs interested in advanced pharmacology. It will emphasize the pharmacokinetics, mechanisms of action and prescribing information for the classes of medications used to treat asthma and diabetes mellitus and polypharmacy and medication-related issues for the older adult. This C.E. offering will help meet or maintain the advanced pharmacology requirement stipulated by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing for prescriptive authority.

Objectives:  Describe the epidemiology and pathophysiology of asthma.  Review asthma risk factors and triggers.  Discuss NAEPP goals and standards for drug therapy.  Review nonpharmacological and pharmacological management of asthma including mechanism of actions, adverse effects, and dosages.  Identify key educational messages to provide to asthmatics.  Describe inappropriate use of medications by the elderly population.  Discuss polypharmacy and medication-related issues in older adults.  Describe the pharmacokinetics, mechanism of action and prescribing information for the classes of medications used to treat diabetes mellitus.  Discuss criteria used when selecting the best option in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Parking: Parking is available on the street (no fees at parking meters on Saturdays) and pay lots costs $3-$4. More details will be in the confirmation letter.

Include your degree and graduation date if applicable. Cancellation and Refunds: This offering will be cancelled and all registration fees returned if there are less than 15 registrants. Individual cancellations will be honored minus a $15 processing fee if received by October 31, 2008. After October 31, 2008 no cancellations will be refunded. A letter will be sent to confirm registration and provide directions if payment received by October 31, 2008.

Accreditation: LSUHSC School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. LSBN (Provider #6). This offering awards 6.0 Rx contact hours. You must be present for at least 90% of the program and complete the evaluation in order to receive contact hours.
