Minutes of Conservation Commission Regular Monthly Meeting 7:00 PM, April 1, 2015
Members: Sandy Prisloe, Rick Holloway, Pat Woomer, Margot Burns, Peggy Wilson
Meeting was Called to Order at 7:05 PM
January Meeting Minutes approved
Audience of citizens: none present
Correspondence: Copy of Connecticut Wildlife, The Habitat, Sustainable Cities, handed out. Letter from CT DEEP requesting waiving public hearing for Main Street Bridge project. Map of Cockaponsett State Forest obtained from Killingworth Library.
Old Business 1.. E- Team Report a. Website has been upgraded, Handout materials developed, and presence on Facebook. b. Need for an article ...... c. Peggy will pass Pat’s name to Chester Village West activities director as a potential speaker at the men’s breakfast program. 2. Greenway Signage. Margot discussed the design of the sign. She will distribute a copy of proposed text for review by all. Goal is to have the sign complete for installation on Earth Day (4/22 or nearest weekend).
3. Earth Day: Additional ideas: rain barrels, (blue)bird houses, composting barrels, Neighborhood roadside cleanups as in past years, LED or CFL exchanges for incandescent bulbs......
4. Open Space Inventory -- No change.
5. Eel ladder: Sandy spoke with Steve Gephart (DEEP). Steve replied that schedule cannot be met. Need Theater permission, drawing of ladder and installation, supplies. a) Sandy will see if DEEP has any existing plans and will check with Inland Wetlands Commission to see if any permits are required. b) Sandy will discuss impact on Cedar Lake fishing with Steve Gephart. c) Sandy will talk to Ed Meehan about how best to approach former and present directors of the Norma Terris Theater. d) Margot will contact Environmental Review Team to see if they have design information (e.g drawings) or other assistance. e) Discussion of whether this could be a VRHS Eco Club project? (e.g. solar powered pump). Rick to contact Eco Club advisor; Sandy to provide information to Rick. 6. Greenway Signage. Discussion of wording and design of proposed sign. New Business 1. Goals for 2015 will be discussed at the May meeting. 2. Sandy will inquire about policies for hunting on Chester Land Trust or Town properties. 3. Sandy will request that the Land Trust appoint a representative to the Conservation Commission.
