June 10, 2016

Emilia Scovel swam in a Spring Invitational meet on March 19 – 20th, where she attained personal bests in the 50 Breast and the 50 Free. Emilia placed 3rd in her heat in the 50

Breast and swam her best time ever. She is back in the pool after a two week break, and she is swimming for her summer team, the Sideburn Run Sharks. She is looking forward to a great summer in the pool.

Samantha Tubbs is training with the Rappahannock Raiders, in preparation for the

Paralympic Trials in Charlotte, N.C. , at the end of June.

Joseph Peppersack is also preparing for the Paralympic Trials at the end of June.

Sean Harrington has been working at Chesapeak e Regional Medical Center, and he still swims to keep in shape .

The VSI Disability Committee has been looking at strategies to include and attempt to support athletes in competitive swim meets who are intolerant , to the point of provoking seizure activity, with the stimuli of strobe lights or flashing lights .

Furthermore, the VSI Disability Committee has been working on a proposal for standardized , consistent reimbursement, within certain limits , for disabled VSI swimmers competing at national level meets. The reimbursement principles will be similar to that for the VSI able-bodied swimmers.

Respectfully submitted,

David Strider
