The EMAT research group at the University of Antwerp in Belgium is recruiting a Post Doc to join a research project on band alignment measurements with state of the art EELS. This project is part of a multidisciplinary effort in order to elucidate band alignment at interfaces in materials for solar energy harvesting applications and in the ageing of paint in historical works of art.
Tasks:
You will be expected to:
Perform state of the art monochromated STEM EELS measurements. Interpret low loss EELS spectra in terms of local band structure. Advance the field in terms of low loss EELS measurements and their link to local properties. Develop creative new setups to overcome current obstacles. Become an expert in the theory and simulation of EELS spectra starting from a local dielectric description. Develop and validate in-situ biasing strategies. Disseminate results at international conferences and in high IF peer reviewed journals. Effectively share your knowledge with other (internal and external) team members. Supervise student projects.
Your profile:
PhD. in Physics or Materials Science. Skilled in aberration corrected electron microscopy. Excellent experimental, computational and organizational skills. A good command of the English language is required with excellent writing and communication skills. A proven track record of achievements (talks, papers, projects,...)
We offer:
An exciting project going well beyond the state-of-the-art; A stimulating, high tech, multicultural and multidisciplinary research environment at EMAT; A laboratory equipped with state of the art instrumentation, including 2 aberration corrected monochromated TEM instruments; The ability to participate in international workshops and conferences; A competitive salary.
Project term:
Enrolment will start as soon as possible. The candidate will be appointed for an initial period of one year, and can be prolonged depending on performance.
Information and application: Additional information about the vacancy can be obtained from: Dr. L. Covaci, [email protected], University of Antwerp, Groenenborgerlaan 171, B-2020 Antwerp, Belgium
Interested applicants should send their Curriculum Vitae, the names of two professional referees, a summary of their PhD. thesis and a cover letter stating their motivation to Dr. L. Covaci
