Thank you for your interest in joining Parkinson’s UK’s volunteer team. Volunteers started the organisation in 1969 and are still central to the charity today. Roles vary from photography and campaigning to educating and fundraising. If you join our team, we will aim to provide a rewarding and worthwhile experience for you. All Parkinson’s UK volunteers must be aged 18 or over.

Volunteer role Volunteer Walks Ambassador – Blickling Estate

Location Walk for Parkinson’s, Blickling Estate - Norfolk

Time commitment Flexible 2-3 hours a week for about 4 weeks

What the role involves

Are you enthusiastic and proactive?

We need your help to help promote our Walk for Parkinson's series of sponsored walks across the UK. You will be an ambassador for the Walk for Parkinson's at Blickling Estate in Norfolk.

You will:

- provide marketing support for the walks - be the face of Parkinson's UK locally and represent the charity - reach out to the local community of to promote the walk and drive an increase in sign ups - support the Regional Fundraiser with identifying suitable companies to

Volunteer role description form disperse flyers to and to promote on staff intranet - call and visit identified companies who want to get involved - flyering around residential areas, community centres and universities - speak with local community groups and encourage group sign ups - put posters up in local community - work with the Regional Fundraiser to advertise the walk in local papers, magazines and on local radio stations

In order to fulfill this role, you will:

- have a proactive 'can do' attitude, as you will need to actively engage with the local community - be confident in talking to people face to face and over the telephone, as you will be visiting and calling companies and community groups - be enthusiastic and outgoing as an ambassador for our Walk for Parkinson's events and Parkinson's UK - have great attention to detail for recording accurate information on who has been contacted - have good IT and email skills for contacting people, communities and businesses and recording who has been contacted - have good knowledge of your local community to flyer, put posters up and talk to people and community groups - be able to use own initiative and work unsupervised - be committed to Parkinson's UK's vision and mission - be honest and reliable

Training and support provided

As a Parkinson's UK volunteer, you can expect to:

- be supported by your Regional Fundraiser who will give you a comprehensive induction to the role and Parkinson's UK - have all the equipment and information needed for this role - be given all the flyers and posters needed to advertise the walk - liaise with your Regional Fundraiser throughout your volunteering role to

Volunteer expenses We believe that no Parkinson’s UK volunteer should find themselves out of pocket because of expenses incurred when carrying out their volunteering activities on our behalf. As a volunteer you can claim out-of-pocket expenses in line with Parkinson’s UK’s Volunteer Expenses Policy.

Criminal record checks Some of our volunteer roles are classed as regulated activities supporting vulnerable people, and volunteers applying for these roles will be asked to undertake a criminal records check. This is at no cost to the volunteer. Your Parkinson’s UK staff contact will provide you with further information on this process. Does this role require a criminal records check?  Yes  No
