2017-2018 CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Each year, our school uses data from surveys completed by parents, students, and teachers along with various forms of test data to ensure that we are tailoring our goals precisely to what Highlands Elementary School students need. Below you will find our three goals for the 2017-18 school year, as well as how we will implement these goals. Each of our goals is supported by research as cited in our full Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). Highlands CIP

1. During the 2017-18 school year, students at Highlands Elementary will show a minimum growth of 50 points on the STAR reading scaled score in correlation with an increase in student participation in the Visual Art Program. Some activities to help achieve this goal are: ○ School-Wide Art Instruction ○ Parent/Family Workshops ○ Student Goal Setting ○ Academic Competitions 2. During the 2017-18 school year, we will engage learners through high quality aligned college and career ready standards, instruction, and assessments for all content areas. We will work towards 63% proficiency in Reading and 60% proficiency in Math through: ○ Utilizing small group instruction ○ Offering intervention services such as SPIRE and small group tutoring ○ Incorporating daily spiral review in core subjects 3. During the 2017-18 school year, we will identify barriers to teaching and learning and align support systems to address barriers while ensuring a safe and positive school environment that fosters student involvement. Some activities we will provide are: ○ Rise and S.H.I.N.E. award for monthly attendance ○ School counseling services targeting friendship, anger management, test anxiety, transitions, and anti-bullying ○ Special events such as Red Ribbon Week and National Unity Day to increase awareness
