Clare Kerr Conference period: 3rd 281-641-6643 [email protected]

The Goal for Algebra II Pre-Ap is to PREPARE the students for a College Level math class (Calculus)  Assignments will be more rigorous.  Students will be expected to apply information they have learned.

Expectations  Respect each other, respect other property and their needs. o Do not write on desks, dividers or anything that does not belong to you. o Keep your area neat before you leave. It is not the custodians job to clean up after you!!  Be orderly, neat, and on time with all work assignments.  Be prepared to come to class and stay in class.  Be seated and ready to work when the tardy bell rings. This includes having pencil sharpened, clickers and calculators on your desk, working on your notebook setup for the day or following directions on the board.  Always give 100% effort.

Assignments and Grading  Pre AP Algebra II weights daily grades at 25% and tests grades at 75%.  We will have 4 tests each 9 weeks.  Show all work on the paper under the problem as directed by teacher.Examples will be given for assignments. o If work has not been shown, credit will NOT be given for the problem or assignment. NO WORK-NO CREDIT-NO EXCEPTIONS!! o Follow the specific directions for each assignment in order to receive FULL credit!!  Late Work---according to the KPHS policy o An assignment 1 day late will receive a maximum grade of 80, 2 days---max 60, 3 days late--- max 50. Any assignments more than 3 days late will receive a 0. . Late work must be COMPLETE with ALL work shown in order to receive credit for the assignment.  The KPHS re-assessment policy states a student may retest once per 9 weeks after failing a test for a maximum grade of 70. o In order to retest, the student must 1. Attend tutoring to correct the test. 2. Clear all zeros on assignments pertaining to the test. 3. Retest within 1 week of receiving the original test grade.  Headings must include first name, LAST name, class period, date and title written on top line.

Notebook  Each student will keep and organized notebook. o The notebook is NOT optional!! o Directions will be given daily on how your notebook should be set up.

During Notes  All notes, examples and information shown by the teacher MUST be written down by ALL students!!  Notebook quizzes may be given over specific information in the notes. Make-up Work  Algebra II requires EXTENSIVE note taking. o If you are absent it is your responsibility to . Check the make up crate . Get any missed notes from another student in the class or from the PreAP calendar on my website. REMEMBER…a quiz might be given over the notes!!  Students are allowed the same number of days to complete make-up work as they were absent. This includes illness AND extracurricular activities.  Make-up work is NOT to be completed during class!! It may be taken up if this occurs. o You need to work on the current class activities during class. Complete make-up work at home or during tutoring…NOT during class!!  Make-up Tests---Students will have 1 week to make up a missed test. o If the test has not been made up within a week, a grade of zero will be entered into the computer. o Make-up Tests will be a different version of the original test. o Make-up tests must be completed after school. There is not enough time before school to complete a test.

Additional Information  Yes, you will have homework every night!!! o Homework is for you to practice the information you have been taught. o For many of you, this is the first time you will have to STUDY for a math class. o All assignments and notes can be found on the PreAP calendar on my website.  Extra Credit---We do not give extra credit!! There may be bonus problems on tests, but that is the only opportunity you will have for extra points.  Most importantly, YOU are responsible for your own work and your learning. o Actively participate in class, take thorough notes, ask for help when needed.

Tutoring  My tutoring days are Monday and Wednesday afternoon at 2:45-3:30 o National Honor Society Tutoring is Tuesday and Thursday 3:00-4:30 in room 2506.

Online Algebra II Textbook  The online textbook is a great tool to use at home. Each student will have the same username and password.  Website: my.hrw.com Username: mstarkey42 Password: panthermath  If you are absent or having trouble on homework…use the online textbook!!! There are video tutorials, extra practice and many other bits of great information.
