Pupil Personnel Services Credential for School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance
GENERAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
1. Attend a PPSC Orientation during your first year of field placement. Orientation dates and times will be posted on the PPSC Program bulletin board and sent to field seminar instructors. You will receive all of the information, materials and application related to the PPSC Program at the orientation.
2. Successful completion of the 60-unit MSW curriculum in the Children, Youth and Families concentration at California State University, Long Beach, School of Social Work;
3. Successful completion of required SW 665 - School Social Work (taken either prior to or concurrently with school social work field work placement);
4 Successful completion of the four required School Social Work Seminar series;
5. Successful completion of one fieldwork placement experience, totaling 600 hours in the Academic Year model, in a designated school setting. The student must be under the supervision of a PPS Credentialed (in social work) Field Instructor. 450 hours are designated for School Social Work activities; 150 hours are designated for Child Welfare and Attendance activities;
The placement must include a minimum of 100 hours completed in two different levels (i.e. elementary, middle school and high school), exposure to activities listed in the generic and specialist core competencies, and a minimum of 100 hours with at least 10 pupils of racial/ethnic backgrounds different from that of the candidate.
6. In addition to completing the Learning Contract/Comprehensive Skills Evaluation used for all students in field work placements, the field instructor will also complete the PPSC Comprehensive Skills Evaluation and the Required Activities document used for all PPSC students in field work placements. Submission of a completed PPSC Comprehensive Skills Evaluation, demonstrating your competence in the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing’s (CTC) designated Generic and Specialist Core Competencies for the PPS Credential in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance Services. This is signed by your PPSC field instructor recommending you for both the PPS credential in Social Work and in Child Welfare and Attendance;
7. Successful completion of the C-BEST examination;
1 8. Completion of required Certificate of Clearance (fingerprinting and character clearance) prior to entry into the School Social Work field work placement (you may not begin your field placement hours until your fingerprinting has cleared);
9. Completion of required health screening (i.e. T.B. test, measles vaccination, etc.) prior to entry into the School Social Work Field Work Placement; and
10. Submission of required documents to the Credential Processing Center, CSULB College of Education (ED-1, Room 42) to assist in the completion of the applicant file and final processing recommendations for the credential.
