Press release – for immediate release On with the onesies in (insert name of town/ school/ workplace) for type 1 diabetes charity!
A (school/business/ college/ individual) in (name of town/local area) is to stage a funky and fabulous fundraising event for JDRF – the type 1 diabetes charity – by getting (staff/pupils/friends) to dress in wonderful onesies for the day.
(Pupils/workers/ full name of individual) from (name of school/college/business) will wear a onesie all day on (insert date) as part of the nationwide #TypeOnesie campaign. The event will raise awareness of type 1 diabetes and support research into curing the condition.
Back for an immensely popular second year, the #TypeOnesie campaign is in countdown to World Diabetes Day on 14 November. Type 1 diabetes – which is not linked to lifestyle factors such as exercise or diet – affects 400,000 people in the UK including 29,000 children. They must take insulin every day just to stay alive.
(Insert your name/ name of another organiser/participant) said: “(Insert quote saying why you are planning on being a #TypeOnesie for World Diabetes Day 2014 – e.g. because you/a friend/a family member is affected by type 1 diabetes.)”
(He/she) added: “I would encourage more people in (name of town/ local area) to stage their own #TypeOnesie event in the next few weeks – whether it’s at school, at work, or just by having a #TypeOnesie sleepover for your kids and their friends.”
Participants are encouraged to share their photos on Twitter or Facebook with the #TypeOnesie hashtag. The onesie craze began after celebrities including Rihanna and the boys of One Direction were seen sporting them – it is estimated that three million Britons have a onesie in their wardrobe!
Karen Addington, CEO of JDRF said: “Those who live with type 1 diabetes – and their families – do a great job of getting on with their lives. But it is a very challenging condition. #TypeOnesie is a great way to have fun while also raising awareness and funds for an important cause.” JDRF is encouraging people across the country to be a #TypeOnesie this year, by wearing a onesie on or close to World Diabetes Day.
