1. Approval of Minutes The April 30, 2015 minutes were approved.
2. Status of Follow-up Items (a) Sample of Social Sciences Special Topics MCO. Don provided a copy of PSYC 297 as an example of an individual project MCO the Social Sciences division created. The outcomes and outline are the same in special topics MCOs. (295) The 295 Special Topics is used when a professor wishes to offer a new course, and this is a placeholder for it. The individual project courses are those where students work with the professor for 1, 2, or 3 credits. The outcomes are vague and not specific. It does not say a lot about what is happening in an individual arrangement you made with a student.
The VPASA’s office says we need some way to track what these courses are getting at. Other divisions did not do what Social Sciences did. Science is close to having their outcomes done, Humanities has done theirs – those could work as a template. Social Sciences was based on criteria used deciding what a Social Science course was. Maybe we can ask divisions to come up with a template. If faculty dislike that, perhaps they say they will make their own. Don cannot find Psychology outcomes in PSYC 297. Perhaps we can present faculty with an option of here is your boiler plate, or say write your own for us, and we will evaluate them individually. Don asked for any feedback.
It was suggested we kick this off early next year with some drafts that people think could fit in certain areas. Comments? A committee member stated we could generate something for Fall 2015. We can bring in some options. We can make it a goal for a couple of meetings. It was also suggested we address courses that fit within distribution areas. Get them cleared up and then consider outside that. The committee agreed to postpone this item until Fall 2015. Page 1 of 3 3. Faculty Senate Update The Faculty Senate has awarded Professor Emeritus status posthumously. They are also discussing the SCC Bookstore changes that will occur. The College is moving forward with partnering with the UW.

CONSENSUS was reached to accept for second reading the new course BIOL& 241 to be in effect Winter 2016.
10. FIRST READING MLT 122 Phlebotomy Laboratory Basics Molly Morse presented the first reading of this revised course. This course is in the Phlebotomy program. It has been updated to be consistent with other classes. The description was changed to include lecture and laboratory course, point of care, and confidentiality. An outcome for Point of Care Testing was added.
Susan explained how in the past the committee asked people not to use the verbs “learn” and “understand” in the outcomes. The verbs we use should pin it down a little more. I.e., the first outcome could read, “Demonstrate ability to order laboratory tests….”. Molly will review the outcomes and let Kerry know when they are complete.
Note: Molly advised the Outcome #1 verb was changed from learn to order instead of demonstrate because it is terminology used in the lab.

11. FIRST READING BTWRT 215 Business Communications Gail Dalton presented the first reading of revised course BTWRT 215. She announced she will volunteer to serve on the Curriculum Committee next year. The sentence added in the description is one that focuses on all levels of business communications. The committee recommended that Outcome #1 needs to be more specific.
CONSENSUS was reached to accept for first reading the revised course BTWRT 215 to be in effect Fall 2015. Changes in italics above will be made.
12. Criteria for Math/Science Distribution Susan’s division is still working on the criteria. They are hoping to have it done by the end of this year.
