Vice-Chairman Terry Mostyn Called the Meeting to Order at 7:42 Pm

OCTOBER 22, 2008 MEETING MINUTES MAHWAH RECREATION COMMITTEE

Vice-Chairman Terry Mostyn called the meeting to order at 7:42 pm.

Roll call was taken and members in attendance were: Andrea Dalessio, Ward Donigian, George Ervin, Nic Giancaspro, Tony LoRe, Rich Maneri, Terry Mostyn, Andy O’Connell, Chris Sariti, Julia Smith, and Lori Swedelson. Also in attendance was Dawn DaPuzzo, Recreation Director.

The flag salute was followed by the Sunshine Law announcement. On a motion by Nic Giancaspro, seconded by Lori Swedelson, the meeting minutes of September 24, 2008 were approved. All in favor, motion carried.

Chairman’s Opening Statement Harry’s statement was handed out to everyone and read by Terry.

New Business Halloween: A check-off list was handed out to everyone. Andrea picked up the goody bags. Signs are up around town. The MMA (DARE) will join us and hand out bicycle helmets. We will hand out bags of apples and possibly cider from the window. Dawn will call the DPW one week prior for help with the day. Chris will ask MJ to contact Secor’s for the hay bales. The Seniors will judge the costume parade. Chris will call the newspaper photographer. Rich, Julia, Chris and Andrea can arrive 3:00 for set up. We will stuff the goody bags after the meeting tonight.

Tree Lighting – Joanne will prepare a purchase order to Terry for $1500.

Plaque for Drew – a plaque was given to Jean Lascar from the Township Council. It was discussed and agreed that the Recreation Committee should present Drew Baumgardt with a plaque for his many years of service to this committee. Joanne will look into ordering the plaque for Drew. Senior Report – On December 14, the Seniors will be going to the Hudson Valley Holiday at West Point, and attend the US Military Concert Band, as well as a champagne brunch.

December meeting – It was agreed by the committee that there be a Christmas party in lieu of the December 17 meeting. Dawn will check with the MB & G.

Old Business Shirts – Terry stated that the blue sweatshirts cannot be ordered. A motion was made by Lori Swedelson and seconded by Chris Sariti to order black sweatshirts. All in favor, motion approved. Terry will contact Joanne with the vendor information to prepare the purchase order.

Basketball & Volleyball – Nic is building a database for automatic e- mails and mailings.

Indoor soccer – Nic asked if there are any gyms available to start an adult indoor soccer league. Dawn said that Nic can ask the schools if there are any days and times available. Dawn can check into getting insurance if there is any availability.

Recreation Director’s Report The annual Veteran’s Day ceremony will be on Tuesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Field.

General Comments The next meeting will be held on the 3rd Wednesday, November 19, and not on the night before Thanksgiving (as printed in the calendar).

Andy O’Connell, an alternate board member, was introduced to the board. Welcome, Andy!

On a motion by George Ervin, seconded by Julia Smith, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m. All in favor, motion carried.

The next meeting will take place on November 19, 2008, at 7:30 pm in the Recreation building.
