APRIL 2008 - - INTERCOM 2 Kyle MacDonald Memorial Occupational Scholarship “Creating Opportunities”
Instructions and information sheet
The purpose of this scholarship is to create opportunities for young men and women who are interested in continuing their education in a technology school, a trade school or a two college. The applicant’s interest should be in welding, agricultural mechanics, livestock, auctioneering, or similar fields.
Complete applications are due by April 15, 2008 by mail only to 2346 McConnell Rd. El Centro, CA 92243
Applicants must be or have been enrolled in FFA, 4H or ROP program(s) and be a graduating high school senior at an Imperial Valley School. All information on the application form must be filled out and include the applicants hand written explanation of why they are interested in this scholarship.
Background - The scholarship fund was established in honor of Kyle MacDonald, a young man who had many interests. Kyle was a 4H member starting from age 9 into his high school years. He was and FFA member throughout high school as well as competing in the Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program. This strong foundation helped Kyle start a small business including the retail sales of livestock products, hay sales, custom welding, and auctioneering. The Kyle MacDonald Scholarship is made possible through the contributions of Kyle’s many friends and business associates.
The scholarship funds will be sent directly to the applicant’s school. This scholarship will be offered in April each year. Applicants will be notified in May of each year regarding award of scholarship. Winning applicant(s) may apply for the scholarship award in the following year.

Shows a strong interest in continuing in the Extension Youth Program and has specific ideas as to ways in which he or she can give guidance and leadership to some phase of the program. 6. APRIL 2008 - - INTERCOM 8 2008 PLANT & FLOWER SHOW Class VI – Fruit & Vegetables: Intermediate Medalist – Matthew Jones 4-H Members of all age groups – Star Route throughout the county brought their 4-H plant Science Projects to the Imperial Class VII – Trees & Shrubs: County Fairgrounds to have their Senior Medalist –Jeanine Smith– Star projects displayed at the 4-H Plant and Route Flower Show January 26th, 2008. Exhibits were judged on Cultural Class VIII - Cactus & Succulents: Perfection, Foliage, Size, Health and Junior Medalist –Steven Johnson– Star General Appearance. Classes included: Route Bulbs, House Plants, Cut Flowers, Senior Medalist –Joey Ambriz– Family Flower Bowls, Herb Gardens, Vegetables, Trees and Shrubs, Cactus Best of Show Junior: and Succulents Dish Gardens and Steven Johnson – Star Route Terrariums. Judges for this years’ event Best of Show Intermediate: were: Janet Mason, Susie Necessary and Matthew Jones – Star Route Mario Ochoa. Categories: Informal, Formal, Special Occasion (primary, juniors, intermediate and advanced in each area) Edible centerpiece competition, too!
What to do: Create a menu (based on a theme), make ONE item from the menu that contains MOSTLY fruits or vegetables;
Participants will need to know the cost and ingredients of their prepared dish.
What to take: Provide your own table setting, one prepared dish and copies of your recipe. Also, dress the theme!
Please plan to attend and have fun!
