Employment basis: February 2015 part-time for 6 months

Remuneration: Negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.

1. International Detention Coalition

The IDC is a coalition of over 300 non-governmental groups and individuals working in over 70 countries. Coalition members provide legal, social and other services; undertake research and reporting as well as advocacy and policy work on behalf of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. The IDC advocates for greater respect for the human rights of detainees; this includes preventing and limiting the use of, seeking alternatives to, and using the least restrictive forms of, immigration detention. The IDC Secretariat is based in Melbourne, Australia, and also has staff based in Germany, Malaysia and Mexico.

2. Position Background:

The International Detention Coalition (IDC) brings together civil society organizations and individuals from across the globe to protect the rights of those affected by immigration detention. The IDC has undergone considerable growth over the past five years. In line with its 2008-11 Strategic Plan, the IDC developed an international governance structure and Secretariat with staff, and secured funding. Training, advocacy, campaign and research materials have also been developed. The IDC increased its global membership, regional networks and strengthened the capacity of its members during this period, meeting and working with 260 groups from 67 countries. IDC members are now better connected and have increased capacity and collaboration in their work to create change for individuals affected by immigration detention.

The IDC funding base has expanded considerably since the initial funding strategy developed for 2008-11 and the subsequent 3-year Strategic and OperationalPlan. Regardless of this growth in income, actual funding and resource needs remain high.

For sustainability at the current level, the IDC needs to increase its core and project funding opportunities over the coming 5 years.

A Funding Strategy has been developed and the IDC is now seeking a fundraising consultant to assist the organisation develop and implement this Strategy. Key Responsibilities:

The Fundraising Consultant will work with the Director and Finance Coordinator to develop and strengthen coordination of the IDC’s Fund Strategy, to identify and submit funding applications for key core funding opportunities, and to work with IDC staff to develop project-based funding submissions.

 Assist the IDC to further expand and develop its 5-year Funding Strategy.

 Identify additional funding sources to incorporate into the Funding Strategy

 Building relationships with identified funding sources

 Further develop standard funding templates in the key areas of work and gaps identified

 Write and submit a number of core funding submissions

 Assist IDC Coordinators in submitting project applications.

Key Selection Criteria

The Fundraising Consultant shall have:

1. Demonstrated experience in developing and writing successful funding applications

2. Demonstrated connectivity to funding and philanthropic networks

3. Experience in developing long-term financial sustainability strategies for NGOs

4. Experience in analysing organizational resource and funding gaps and conceptualizing and developing project-based funding proposals.

5. Experience in working in a team environment

6. The ability to work within set deadlines.
