The Loopy Lolly box.

Loopy Lollies is a small business that makes unique soft centre lollies. They are about to release a new product “Squishy Beans”, a jelly bean with a liquid centre.

They will package the new product in a box folded from an A4 piece of cardboard.

However, their marketing team cannot decide what shape the box should be.

One group wants to make a cube from the card, one group a rectangular box, and one a cylindrical box.

Your job is to find out how to make a box of each type from an A4 net, and to calculate the volume of each box, to decide which type of box is most efficient.

Information you will find useful:

Volume of a cube = Surface area of cube = 6 X Length2

Volume of a rectangular prism = L x w x h Surface area = 2(L x w) + 2(L x H) + 2(w x h)

Volume of a Cylinder Surface area =

Level 8 Create models of the three shapes from an A4 piece of paper. Decide on the best shape to use by testing with jelly beans. Level 9 Create Models of the three shapes from an A4 piece of paper. Prove that you have made the largest possible container for each Decide on the best shape to use by testing with jelly beans. Confirm your result by calculating the volume of each. Level 10 Create Models of the three shapes from an A4 piece of paper. Prove that you have made the largest possible container for each. Decide on the best shape to use by testing with jelly beans. Confirm your result by calculating the volume of each. Compare the volumes of a cube , rectangular prism and cylinder of the same surface area and make general statements about which shape is the most efficient for packaging.
