Article I: Name of the Organization

Constitution of The Catholic Student Society of the Holy Name.

Article I: Name of the Organization --Section I: The name of the organization shall be the “Catholic Student Society of the Holy Name,” further referred to as the CSS.

Article II: Purpose of the Organization --Section I: We are an organization, which means to foster, though study, practical living and support, to live the Catholic faith. We mean to do this in fidelity with Church Magistrum, Scripture and sacred Tradition. We also hope to be a social organization to support others in the Catholic faith.

Article III: Non-Discrimination Policy --Section I: Since the Truth of the Catholic faith is open to all people this organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) because of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, or handicap. Also, the CSS adheres to all regulations on this issue and follows all necessary guidelines set fourth by The Ohio State University.

Article IV: Membership --Section I: Only Students registered at any campus for The Ohio State University may be official members. --Section II: Upon graduation from The Ohio State University, former students may not hold office or membership in the CSS. --Section III: Membership can be revoked by the President of the CSS, by 2/3ths majority vote of the Executive Board, or by 2/3rds of the club as a whole. --Section IV: Attendance may be taken. Only those who attend 1/2 of regular meetings may be eligible to vote in elections.

Article V: Officers --Section I: The elected offices are the Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, and Treasurer. --Section II: The Chairperson is the chief operating officer of the CSS. The Chairperson, along with the Treasurer manages the funds given to the CSS. The Chairperson controls every aspect of the business operations and serves as the liaison with other organizations or individuals. The Chairperson may delegate any duties when necessary. --Section III: The Vice-chair person will assume all duties in case of absence, dehabilitation or death of the Chairperson. The Vice-chair is also in charge of recruitment. --Section IV: The Treasurer controls the finances in conjunction with the Chairperson. The Treasurer keeps track of accounting and revenue. The Treasurer will also be responsible any required audits. The Treasurer will assume all duties in case of absence, dehabilitation or death of the Chairperson and Vice-chairperson. --Section V: The Chairperson, the Vice-chair and the Treasurer make up the Executive Board. --Section VI: An officer may be recalled by 2/3rd of eligible members. If an officer is recalled a special election will be held, for that office only, to finish out the remainder time of the office. The special election will be held one week after the successful recall vote. --Section VII: If for any reason an officer is not able to discharge their duties a special election will be held for that office only.

--Article VI: Advisor Section I: The Advisor of the CSS will be the Pastor of Holy Name Church in the Diocese of Columbus. The Co-advisor for the CSS will be a member of the Ohio State University faculty or staff. The Advisor is responsible for spiritual direction. The Co-advisor is in charge of all dealings with the University and all other business.

--Article VII: Meetings Section I: Meetings will be held weekly on Sundays at 6:30. Other meeting may be held during the rest of the week at the discretion of the club.

--Article VIII: Elections --Section I: Only members can run for office. --Section II: a. Starting in the 2004-2005 calendar school year of The Ohio State University, the elections will be held during the second week of May of every year, as scheduled by the current Chairperson. Those elected will take office the last week of May. This is classified as the regular election. b. Those wishing to run should announce their intentions, at the meeting of the first week of May or in writing, one week before the election. This rule (Art. IV Sec.II Subsection b) may be overridden by the Chairperson or 51% of the eligible membership. --Section III: Voting is restricted to eligible members. --Section IV: Special elections can be held at the request of the 2/3rds of the eligible membership or in cases of extenuating circumstances may be called by 2/3rds of the Executive board. In case of extenuating circumstances, after the Executive Board has called for special elections, a vote 2/3rds of the eligible members must concurre with the recommendation of the Executive Board for special elections. Special elections should only be held in case emergency. No proxy voting is allowed in special elections. --Section V: a. A simple majority of all eligible club members at time of regular election is all that is required of election to any office during regular elections. b. By proxy ballots will be accepted, at the discretion of the Chairperson, providing the person voting by proxy has made arrangements with Executive Board one week before the elections, has submitted their vote(s) in writing and is eligible to vote (See Art. IV Sec IV). --Section VI: Any other rules not specifically listed in this constitution, such as method of voting, remains the discretion of the Chairperson. --Section VII: In case no one person receives 51% of the vote a runoff may be held. --Article IX: Amendments --Section I: Any member may propose amendments --Section II: Once unanimously approved by the Executive Board, the amendment is voted on by the members present at the special meeting and is approved by a 2/3rds majority vote.

--Article X: Dissolution --Section I: Any member of the Executive Board can propose a resolution for dissolution of the CSS in its entirety. --Section II: Dissolution of the CSS occurs after a unanimous vote of the present Executive Board at a special meeting and 2/3rds vote of the present eligible members at the same special meeting. --Section II: In case of dissolution of the CSS, the Executive Board will settle any debts and all assets will become property of Holy Name Catholic Church in the Diocese of Columbus.
