Characteristics of a Good Library Display

. Theme- objects that relate to theme you have in mind or create theme that will highlight objects you want to display, creating a comprehensive theme to tie the whole display together

. Size- variation of sizes, mix small items with large items, use props if sizes of publications are similar

. Height- variation of heights, mix taller items with shorter items, use stands, don’t be afraid to stack items on top of each other

. Space- appropriate use, not too crowded but not too empty, let your space work for you, avoid the boring “Toy Soldier” syndrome, you have three dimensions so use them

. Colors- variation of colors, mix bright with dulls and lights with darks, a good blend will be visually appealing

. Motion- always catches eye, object hanging from ceiling, can fake with illusions, book turning, reflection, interactive, make the viewer create the motion

Tips -- Be flexible -- Be creative -- Use any available resources -- Let your space work for you -- Get a second, third, fourth opinion
