House of Representatives Montpelier, Vermont Concurrent House Resolution H.C.R. 355 House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2005 Charlotte Little League 9–10-year-old state championship team Offered by: Representative Orr of Charlotte Whereas, the Charlotte 9–10-year-old team entry in the 2005 state Little League tournament featured an outstanding squad of batters and fielders who from the beginning of tournament play were serious contenders for the state championship, and Whereas, the 2005 mottos of “Score first, score often, and keep the lead,” and “Get on, and get around,” drove the team throughout tournament, district title, and state title play, and Whereas, the run for the state championship began on July 7, with an amazing 22–0 win over Winooski in the first district tournament game, and Whereas, Charlotte played nine more games, including: July 14 versus Burlington American, winning 12–3; on July 16, falling 8–1 to Colchester; July 17, winning over Richmond 8–7; July 21 versus Williston, winning 7–6 in extra innings; July 24 topping Vergennes 8–1; and then defeating Vergennes again, July 26, 3–2 for the district title, and Whereas, state tournament play commenced on July 29 with a 5–4 victory over Swanton and continued on July 30 with a 13–7 win over Barre, and Whereas, on August 1, the final game for the state title against Barre commenced, but inclement weather extended this decisive contest through August 2 and 3, resulting in an extraordinarily lengthy little league season for players, coaches, and parents alike, and Whereas, the Charlotte Little League 9–10-year-old team clinched the state championship finally on August 3, 2005 with a 5–0 victory over Barre, and Whereas, the team completed a tournament record of 9 wins and 1 loss, with a total of 84 runs while allowing only 38 runs from opposing teams, and Whereas, these fine young athletes, consisting of Tristan Arthaud, Tyler Barnes, Brad Bissonette, Scott Bissonette, Wesley Carroll, Adam Dawson, Nick Ferrentino, Ryan Fleming, Christian Jaunich, Dillon Machavern, Tyler Murphy, and Patrick Shea, benefited from the guidance of coaches Dave Machavern and Jack Barnes, had the administrative assistance of manager Rahn Fleming, and became the first Charlotte Little League team to win a state championship, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives: That the General Assembly congratulates the Charlotte Little League 9–10-year-old team on winning the 2005 state Little League championships, and be it further Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Charlotte Central School board of directors, the Hinesburg Community School board of directors, and the Charlotte Little League board of directors.
