Next week students in grades 3, 5 and 7 will be taking the Terra Nova Standardized tests. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats well during the week. The tests are tiring for students and they need to be well prepared both mentally and physically. The Parish Mission will take place next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The speaker will be Fr. Tom McCarthy and if you have never heard him speak you have missed out on a great talk! Students will not receive any homework on Monday and Tuesday nights so parents can attend the mission and not have to worry about helping children get the work done. All parish meetings are canceled during this time, as well. A monumental event is taking place in the history of the Catholic Church with the resignation of Pope Pius XVI. Our own Cardinal Francis George arrived in Rome yesterday to join the other Cardinals from around the world as they meet to choose our new leader. Please pray for them as they discuss who will be chosen and be aware of this historic moment for the church. We will be discussing it in school as the process unfolds and we will pray a special prayer daily to the Holy Spirit for guidance for the Cardinals during the conclave until our new Pope is chosen.
Have a good week.
Mary Stokes School Advisory Meeting
PLEASE NOTE: The SAC meeting scheduled for March 6th has been cancelled due to the Parish Mission.
Classroom Highlights
Kindergarten, Room 18, has just finished an exciting, hands-on science unit on the senses. We did hearing and tasting experiments blindfolded. For our sense of sight we made flip sticks and tried to figure out some optical illusions. Lastly, we tried to determine if something was soft, hard, or rough using our sense of touch. Boy, did we have FUN !!!
Kindergarten – Room 17 – Congratulations to previous star student Ellie Vahl. Guest story time reader was Mrs. Mica Vahl, mother of Ellie.

St. Christina is hosting a St. Baldrick’s Event on March 13th, 2013
St. Baldrick’s Foundation is an organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. At the event, people shave their heads (refers to a #1 buzz cut) in solidarity with children with cancer in exchange for donations of support from friends and family. That money is distributed to hospitals and research institutions across the country to fund cutting-edge, life-saving research.
Will you help? We need volunteers and licensed beauticians/barbers.
If you have questions, give me a call (1 779 972 8975) or email me ([email protected]) and we can talk about it.
You can also contact the St. Baldrick’s Foundation directly at 888-899-BALD or [email protected]
I hope you’ll join the volunteer committee!
Thank you! Rita M Kennedy
