GRAYSON COUNTY TECHNOLOGY CENTER Marketing Basics Syllabus Instructor: Cynthia Smith Marketing makes it possible for businesses to find customers for their products and services and to sell them at a reasonable price while still making a profit. Marketing helps consumers select the best products and services from all those available in order to satisfy their wants and needs. This course provides the students with a basic foundation for understanding marketing and the huge role it plays in our everyday lives. While principles of marketing A is not a pre-requisite for this course, it is highly recommended.

Text: Marketing Essentials, 3 rd edition. Farese, Kimbrell, and Woloszyk. Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, 2002.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.11-12.5 Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest. Throughout this course, you will be expected to complete various oral and written assignments. Also, you will be given quizzes and tests as well as performance events that will factor in determining your grade. Your grade will be determined by the following weights: Homework = 35%, Quizzes/Tests/Projects = 35%, Writing/Reading Assignments = 20%, Journal = 10%. Final grade will be determined by 90% of your coursework and your final exam/project will count 10%.

Paperwork: All students must fill out an application for enrollment to the technology center. Please make sure all sections are completed. Paperwork will be sent back to you without medical information. All students must also fill out a medical release form and field trip permission form to be able to go on our field trips or travel to DECA events. Please return these forms within 7 calendar days. For each day thereafter, a five point penalty will be assessed to those forms not being turned in. That is the standard procedure if homework is turned in late!

Attendance is extremely important! In the event of an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to seek and turn in their work within a week of their absence. Otherwise, credit for that work may not be granted.
