L. “Hoss” 20 Johnson of Murrells Inlet, who died this past summer, at the age of 21 fifty-eight; and 22 23 Whereas, “Hoss” Johnson was born in Murrells Inlet to the late 24 James B. and Jessie “Byo” Johnson. He had lived in Murrells Inlet 25 most of his life and had become part of the fishing culture of the 26 South Carolina Coast over the years, taking groups out on 27 chartered fishing trips as well as fishing for pleasure on his 28 vacations; and 29 30 Whereas, “Hoss” Johnson had been working on boats out of 31 Murrells Inlet since he was fourteen years old. He became the 32 captain of the original Inlet Princess at the age of twenty-seven, 33 and when the old boat was replaced with the New Inlet Princess, 34 he skippered that one until he was forced to retire for health 35 reasons; and 36 37 Whereas, “Hoss” Johnson will be greatly missed but not forgotten 38 by the many people whose lives he touched. He was a founding 39 member of the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Rescue Squad and the 40 Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Departments and a member of 41 Murrells Inlet Masonic Lodge Post 368 and Berlin United 42 Methodist Church; and

1 [4161] 1 1 2 Whereas, the General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family 3 of J. L. “Hoss” Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Jo Dell 4 Hughes Johnson; a daughter, Diana Marie Johnson, and grandson, 5 Matthew Legette Saults of Murrells Inlet; sisters, Mary Hughes 6 and Edna Strickland, both of Murrells Inlet; brothers, William 7 Brown of Georgetown and Francis “Pee Wee” Brown of Murrells 8 Inlet; and several special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Now, 9 therefore, 10 11 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 12 concurring: 13 14 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 15 Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon 16 the death of Captain J. L. “Hoss” Johnson of Murrells Inlet this 17 past summer, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many 18 friends. 19 20 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 21 Jo Dell Hughes Johnson of Murrells Inlet. 22 ----XX----
