Reports to: Clinical Leader for clinical performance and other Professional duties. Service Manager for employer and related service matters.

Directorate: Surgical

Direct reports: Registrars and junior medical staff appointed to the Rheumatology Service and students attached to the unit.

Purpose of the Role The Rheumatology Service sits with the Orthopaedic service under the Specialist Surgery Service. The Specialist Surgery Service is committed to implementing a team-based approach to provide excellence in patient care. The Specialist will work with other members of the Specialist Surgery Service team to provide clinical services and is expected to participate in the appropriate team’s training activities with the objective of providing a high standard of clinical practice and clinical expertise, while contributing to the provision of efficient and effective Rheumatology services within the Southern Region.

Essential Criteria

Experience/Knowledge

 Be registered as a medical practitioner with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for registration with the Medical Council to enable practice within New Zealand.

 Hold a higher qualification appropriate to the practice of Rheumatology. This qualification must be recognised by the Medical Council for vocational registration as a Rheumatologist.

This will involve

A board car or flight as appropriate will be provided for such travel commitments.  Provide all patients with a full explanation of all procedures and treatments.  Obtain informed consent from all patients in accordance with Southern District Health Board’s policy for undertaking any operation, test or procedure.  Maintain a high standard of professional care in accordance with the New Zealand Medical Association Code of Ethics and in accordance with the New Zealand Rheumatology Association protocols and standards documents, statutory and regulatory requirements and Southern District Health Board policies.  Deliver care on a sessional basis in Rheumatology, in a timely and cost effective manner.  Be punctual in the commencement and delivery of service provision.  To place patients on the Rheumatology booking system as per established criteria and to assign priorities according to the degree of urgency.  Administration  To attend review sessions, audits, Southern District Health budgetary meetings and other Board is committed to departmental meetings as developing self- appropriate. managing teams and  To maintain quality clinical records, the consultant will: clinical care pathways. 1.
