Dear Parent or Guardian:

In accordance with No Child Left Behind, all Maryland students in Grades 3-8 are expected to be proficient with curriculum in reading. In order to continue student success MCPS is offering extended day programs at each phase one middle school to provide a challenging afterschool reading opportunity to our Gifted and talented students.

Your child has been identified as a candidate for the following extended day course: READING

This course is designed for students who may benefit from a more hands on approach to reading. (MSA).

This course is beneficial for students who meet one or more of the following criteria:  Students who require a more hands on approach to reading.  Students who scored proficient or advanced on the MSA  Students who could benefit from a creative approach to creating literature through film.

The intervention course will be held from November 4, 2009 through March 4, 2010 on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:45 until 4:00 p.m. Classes will not meet on half days or on the day before Thanksgiving. Students in this program will be eligible for bus transportation if they live within the designated route areas.

To obtain maximum benefit from this program, your child needs to be present for every class. Please make attending this class a priority.

Please remember that  Classes begin on November 4, 2009  Classes meet each Wednesday and Thursday from 2:45-4:00  Classes will not meet on half days or before holidays  Registration is due by October 23, 2009  Students will be eligible for incentives for perfect attendance
