Robert M. McClung was born on September 10, 1916 in Butler,

Pennsylvania. He graduated from Butler High School in 1934 and

continued his education at Princeton University. His majors were

zoology and biology. He joined the Naval Reserve after he graduated

college and served in WWII. After his service was done, he began writing his famous novels. He was working for National Geographic from 1958 – 1962. He has written many books dealing with nature and the outdoors.

Hugh Glass and his fellow men were traveling up the Missouri River in 1822. They were exploring new lands while trapping various animals. One day, Hugh Glass encountered a mother grizzly bear and her two cubs. He could not escape the vicious claws, so he was severely mauled. When his fellow trappers discovered him, they left him to die. As they days went by, Hugh Glass began his long journey for revenge.
