WATER COMMONS – FLICK FEST ‘12 A Short Film Competition

Overview The Centre of Excellence for Change is launching its Awareness Advert Video and Short Documentary Competition – “WATER COMMONS – FLICK FEST ‘12” on Water Scarcity and Conservation and related awareness issues.

CEC is a culmination of the Change Management Group (CMG) journey, as an institution providing space for all likeminded Change Agents in public utilities, government organizations and civil society to work towards mitigating the impact of climate change on Water and Food, especially for the disadvantaged and unreached through a paradigm shift in water management and service delivery.

We at CEC strive towards our mission of ‘Water and Food for All, Forever’ by engendering individual and organizational change in attitudes and perspectives in order to catalyze water conservation by creating awareness on water scarcity and conserving it for our future generations. The purpose of this competition is to provide a global platform to showcase the voice of the Indian youth enabling them to help spread awareness on water scarcity, its critical situation and how it affects fellow humans who die for water.

Theme From amateur film makers and students to professionals, we welcome everybody to be a part of this innovative video making competition.

It’s time to capture some reality!

Associate yourself with us in this venture and contribute to this very vital social cause to make a difference. How? By spreading the word, and by making people think… By making and submitting a documentary (5 minutes) or a innovative awareness video (not more than 60 seconds) about  water conservation  water scarcity and its effects  the sin of wasting water, etc

Any approach, any idea, any framework.. We leave it to you! Participate and help us tell the world about the criticality of the water situation and the necessity of providing water for all, forever…

Aim of conducting the competition

CEC’s main aim of conducting this competition is to create a sense of awareness on water scarcity and conservation among the youth of our country by providing them a platform to showcase their talents and giving them an opportunity to help us spread water awareness. By encouraging them to participate in this event, we intend to motivate them to think about water issues, learn more about the current state of water, the risks and adverse effects of water scarcity, sufferings of fellow human beings, ways to conserve and not waste water, etc.

Shooting and submitting videos on these lines will bring in a sense of awareness and responsibility clubbed with the fun and challenge of making a video. By materializing this innovative event with a great social cause, we at CEC expect to create a huge wave of awareness on water scarcity among many young hearts and minds of our country.

What type of videos do we expect?

As a result of monetary investment in this event, we hope to expect a collection of videos of two main categories.

Innovative Awareness Videos – 60 seconds These videos are mainly used for creating awareness and spreading the news on water scarcity. They should be innovative and provocative in nature and must make people realize the criticality of the situation and that wasting water is a sin which can be prevented.

Documentary Videos –5 minutes These videos must be able to bring out any short story on water scarcity and conservation or it could be an informative documentary on the reality of the water situation, sanitation, water wastage, etc.

The Jury Panel

The great Indian filming legend Mr. K. Balachander has agreed to be the Guest of Honor for this event and to distribute prizes to the winners of the competition.

The deadlines and dates

The registration deadline is August 27th, 2012.

The submission deadline will be August 31st after which CEC shall not entertain entries.

Award distribution is tentatively fixed as October 2nd (Gandhi Jayanthi) and will be communicated to participants.

Entries for “Water for All, Forever”, once submitted will remain the property of the organizers.

2. How do I submit the video?

The participants are expected to submit their videos in a DVD and mail/courier it to following address

4. Can I work as a team?

Yes. But choose one person to be your representative. All communication from us will go to that one person. You must agree amongst yourselves how the prizes will be distributed within the team.

5. Can I use third party videos/ music in my submission?

It's recommended that you only use original footage that you have shot yourself. You must not copy footage from any other video you find on the internet or elsewhere. The work must be original.

Please ensure that you do not use any material which violates copyright laws. E.g. do not mix in film songs or background music scores for which you have no copyrights. Please remember the primary focus is the visual content and we do not mark you up or down for the music you use.

6. Is there any entry fee for this competition?

No, there is no entry fee for this competition. It is open for all above the age of 16 years.
