Fruit & Veg Bags (Box Scheme)

Fruit & Veg Bags (Box Scheme) fresh – local – organic delivered weekly

Organiclea Community Growers www.organiclea.org.uk “We feel really excited about the work that's taking place at Hawkwood to increase the range of food that's locally grown. We're proud to be part of this by receiving fruit and veg from the site, and we look forward to being among the first to taste new products.” Organiclea Veg Bag Customer

Organiclea grows organic fruit, vegetables and herbs at Hawkwood Plant Nursery in Chingford, a beautiful 12 acre site. Our produce is grown by volunteers for our weekly veg box scheme, market stalls (in Walthamstow and Leytonstone), the Hornbeam cafe and other local restaurants.

Our weekly veg bags offer the opportunity to bring the freshest, ultra local, organic produce to your kitchen at realistic yet affordable prices.

Our produce sourcing policy supports the development of sustainable livelihoods and fair trading with farmers who work using ecological growing and farming methods. As well as produce grown by Organiclea, we work with partner farmers Hughes Organics and Breckland Organics in South Norfolk, Sarah Green in Essex and small scale growers right here in North East London through our Cropshare scheme. Most of our produce is harvested the day before our bags are packed and delivered. Our weekly newsletter tells you where your produce has come from that week, as well as offering recipe ideas and news on local food events.

Our veg bag scheme is low carbon: we source as locally as we can and deliver our produce by electric milk float charged by solar energy and by bicycle trailer. Organiclea and our partner farmers are certified Organic by the Soil Association and our London based growers pledge to use the Wholesome Food Association principles (an alternative to organic certification for small scale growers).

Organiclea is a not-for-profit workers’ co-operative. Any surplus we make goes into expanding our work, making our services better, involving more and varied people in the work that we do, or creating more jobs. We are committed to building skills and communities through weekly volunteer days, apprenticeships, work placements and traineeships as well as our certified horticulture and permaculture training, regular courses in fruit trees, wine and beekeeping and through supporting others to grow in their own communities.
